Non-Confrontational Interviewing-Online

Introduction to the Non-Confrontational Investigative Interviewing Approach, an eLearning course, explores the techniques of non-confrontational interviewing to optimize results from investigations. The course compares confrontational and non-confrontational interviews, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Real case examples and studies provide evidence of the success investigators experience through establishing rapport and interviewing with an open mind.

This tuition-free online training was developed by the UT Law Enforcement Innovation Center (LEIC), an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service and was originally supported by cooperative agreement 2020-CK-WXK-056 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

LEIC Master Public Information Officer Certification

Our Fall 2023 Public Information Officer Certification Cohort is scheduled for September 25-29, 2023. This 40-hour, POST-approved class will cover agency branding, daily media labs, writing, photography and social media, crisis management, emotional intelligence, press releases, and press conferences.

We are excited to host our second cohort in our state-of-the-art training facility at 193 Polk Avenue Nashville, TN. Registration for the class is $695 and is 40 hours POST credit.

We have the only University-based MPIO program in the U.S.

Cultural Competency for Law Enforcement

Our 2-day Cultural Competency for Law Enforcement, offered by the UT Law Enforcement Innovation Center, is designed to increase cultural competency and reduce biased-based policing in the law enforcement community.

LEIC developed this ground-breaking training in partnership with the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, California. Curriculum topics include diversity, self-reflection and self-awareness, de-escalation, critical decision-making, ethics, and bias-based policing. It also examines the process of building trust and respect within the communities officers serve.
