| Behold, the Lucia Festival of Light celebration!
| |
|
On December 14, 2022, we had our Lucia Festival of Light* celebration. The evening included beautiful music, carols, hot glögg, good holiday cheer, and, of course, the festival of light itself (see above.)
Click here for more photos from the enchanted evening!
* the Library sits about 500 feet above the sea on the slopes of the Santa Lucia Mountains!

| A young Henry Rollins recites Henry Miller in Germany
| |
We don’t know about you, but for us, nothing captures the holiday spirit quite like a young Henry Rollins reciting a excerpt from Henry’s "Black Spring" (1) (2) before launching Black Flag into the greatest punk song of all time, “Nervous Breakdown,” at the Bierkeller in Bradford, UK, circa 1984.
Happy holidays!!!

New Podcast Alert! (NPA)Magnus sat down to chat with official Big Sur Wild Woman (BSWW) Dana Godbe Carnazzo to discuss growing up in Big Sur, hanging out down Cannery Row, Monterey Pop Festival, VW bus around Europe, sailing in the Caribbean and South Pacific; anchoring in Hanavave Bay on Fatuhiva, Tuamotu and onwards...
Enjoy!

And that's a wrap!
What can we say?
2022 was such an incredible year for us here at the Library, thanks, as always for your support, whether making a donation, buying a book, coming to a show, telling your friends about us, or even just thinking about us in a quiet and reflective moment. It all adds up!!
And guess what?
2023 will be even better.
We look forward to seeing you down (or up?) the coast and thanks again for being there!!
Yours truly,
Magnus, Mike, Jake, Niko, Samantha, Dave, Iguana John & Jack Kerouac

* this is a 'free' copy the Monthly Digest we send out to supporters...early bird etc..
(1) Black Flag scholars know that the definitive version of “Nervous Breakdown” was, of course, sung by Keith Morris.
(2) In a nifty piece of kismet, the Osees performed a revved up version of “Nervous Breakdown” when they played at the HML during lockdown.
(3) Eddie Cochran’s completely different “Nervous Breakdown” from 1958 (!) is, dare we say, more bad-ass than what followed:
