The Mason girls track and field team had an outstanding team showing at the the State Championship June 2nd and 3rd at Jesse Owens Stadium at Ohio State. After finishing 2nd at the Regional Championships the girls sent a host of qualifiers to the OHSAA State Meet.
At State the 4x800 relay kicked off the meet by not only winning the race, but setting an all-time, all-divisions state and stadium record. The relay was made up of Lily Hallum, Maddie Ullom, Faith Min and Ellie Brush, all of whom ran their season best times to combine for a time of 8:56.62 to beat the previous state record by 4 seconds and the previous school record by 13 seconds. The entire team and their fans joined the ladies as they celebrated atop the podium.
The record setting continued on Saturday as Amaya King bested her own school record in the shot put with her final throw of 46’7”. Amaya improved her state performance from last year finishing state runner-up in the event.
Nicole Bagby also finished her career with a personal best and new school record in the pole vault. She vaulted 13” to finish 3rd in her event.
Lily Hallum returned to set another record in the 800 meter run. She ran a personal best of 2:13.84, to finish 7th and round out her great season.
Maddie Ullom also finished 7th in the 400 meter dash in an outstanding time of 56.59 seconds, the only freshman in the race.
We had several other state participants who had fantastic seasons, and great final performances.
