GOLDENROD SILK BUSTLED EVENING GOWN, c. 1880
Goldenrod Silk Bustled
Evening Gown, c. 1880
With spring finally here, we were looking forward to seeing you all next week in Massachusetts. However, with shelter-in-place restrictions are still in force in New England, the onsite clothing and textile auctions we've scheduled each May for 12 years are now cancelled.
The rarity and quality of the items we unearthed in  the museum deaccession boxes we received this winter had us imagining a room filled with smiling vintage lovers next Wednesday. As we all make shifts in our lives to prioritize  health and safety, we'll have to forego seeing your smiling faces and pivot to bringing these great lots to you virtually. The sale will be held next Wednesday, May 13th at 2 pm.
We know that there is no replacement for viewing these  historical treasures in person. External conditions require your May auction purchases be based on our photos and descriptions or by calling for a Facetime session for your most desired lots.. To that end, we've expanded our description fields - detailing in each lot why we chose them for inclusion in this sale.

Pucci for Braniff Mini Dresses, c. 1973
Pucci Stewardess Uniforms, c. 1973
Our May sale has been curated from thousands of museum and private consignments received at our studio over the past year. To add to your bidding pleasure during these rough times, we've made most of the lots larger than usual. This catalog  now includes sale lots of two or more similar objects being sold at one price.
Please spend some time over the next week reading our expanded and detailed descriptions to understand why we selected these pieces and what makes them so rare and special.  If you have any questions or need assistance with the new methods of bidding, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What Texas historian wouldn't jump at the opportunity to relive the period when Braniff Airlines hired fashion  designers  Halston & Pucci to define their modern looks? It brings us all back to the time when flying and travelling were full of glamour, a carefree lifestyle  and short hemlines.
POIRET ATTRIBUTED COCOON COAT, 1910-1920
Poiret Attributed Cocoon Coat, 1910-1920
This Cocoon coat was purchased early this century in Paris at the Poiret family auction and is now being offered to Augusta Auction bidders.  This incredible coat was possibly worn by Poiret's wife and muse Denise and sold by her grandchildren.
Also of note in this sale, are many more hat and shoe lots from Katharine Hepburn's closet and a Sissy Spacek film worn dress by Claire McCardell. The music industry is well represented with an avant garde rubber bustier worn by Briitney Spears on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in 2003, and an amazing pair of leather pants worn by rocker Lou Reed on the 1974 'Animal Tour'.
We encourage you to spend a few spare evenings, while you have the time, looking over our catalog before next week.  There is a lot to absorb.
We are offering four ways to bid at our May 13th sale. The final catalog is on our website and our absentee bid form and our phone bid form are both posted on our homepage. Submit the forms at least one day in advance and we’ll do the rest.
If you prefer to bid online during the sale, we now have our internet bidding catalogues posted on both LiveAuctioneers and Invaluable.

Maria Gallenga Stencilled Jacket
Maria Gallenga Stencilled Coat,
c. 1930
After observing how both bidding platforms process their live bids, we suggest that you enter your top bids in advance of this sale. Both platforms, and our absentee bid sheets, will bid for you competitively and start you out at the minimum opening bids. Nobody, including us knows your bid limit, and clogged internet traffic won't prevent your bids from reaching us.
You can still watch the sale next Wednesday and bid live as the sale is going on. If you find item you must have for your collection, the best way to guarentee your bid is to use our absentee bid form  and submit in advance of the sale.
We have limited staff available to process phone bids so have restricted these requests to lots that you will open for $500US. Use our absentee form or online bidding for any lots that don't meet that minimum bid threshhold.

We have also put aside more than 150 museum boxes for our annual DISCOVERY SALE.  We remain hopeful that improving conditions will allow us to hold our 2-day Discovery sale later this summer. It will be outdoors, under the tent at our studio in early to mid August, if such an in-person sale is possible this year.
Your continued health and the health of our staff is paramount so we will wait until later next month before scheduling. Please check back at our homepage for confirmation and a date when our state officials provide us some guidance. We hope to see you then.

If you know others stuck at home who love beautiful things, we'd greatly appreciate you sharing our email announcement among your vintage fashion network. Please use the Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In  & email links at the bottom of this page.
