Scholar Leader Application Due Date Extended!Scholar Leader is a prestigious experience for upper-class Miami University students that involves a one-year residence in Elliott or Stoddard Halls - two of the most historic residence halls in the nation.
Each Scholar Leader receives a scholarship during their time in the Living Learning Community. These scholarships are made possible by our generous alumni donors.
The mission of the Scholar Leader Community is to establish a proactive, supportive community dedicated to enhancing leadership and scholarship among its members and the broader university community. The Scholar Leader Community empowers each cohort with resident-guided programming, academic involvement, service learning projects, and the opportunity to explore leadership. Scholar Leaders spend an entire year creating a community rooted in leadership, scholarship and service, and have fun along the way.
Please note that the applications close on February 7th, 2021 at 11:59pm.

Apply for LEAF (Leadership Enrichment Access Fund) Award
The TRIO Foundation LEAF is awarded to support a second year student or above seeking personal and professional growth, the development of leadership skills, and exposure to diverse, global perspectives through co-curricular activities but, due to significant financial need, would otherwise be unable to afford to participate or would incur undue financial hardship to do so.
LEAF award is dependent on the amount requested; however, typically two to three awards are offered with the average award between $2000-$5000.
Previous Awards have funded:
- Study abroad programs
- Independent research projects
- EMT Certification
- Sorority dues
- Miami Mock Trial participation
The qualities and characteristics of LEAF recipients should include:
- Demonstration of financial need
- Personal accountability for financial self-sufficiency and fiscal responsibility
- Highest standard of ethics and integrity
- Broad and active view of citizenship
- Reputational sensibility
- Exemplary academic record
- Record of working to pay for all or a portion of their college costs
- Campus and/or community involvement
Each student must submit the following by March 1, 2021 at 5 pm for full consideration.

One critical component of being a leader is understanding yourself: your values, how you communicate, how you partner with others, your passions, and your strengths and areas for improvement. This assessment has helped more than 9 million people around the world discover their talents.
After you take the Clifton StrengthsFinder, you'll receive a customized report that lists your top five talent themes, along with action items for development and suggestions about how you can use your talents to achieve academic, career, and personal success.

Find Local Volunteer Opportunities
ComMUnity Connect, Miami’s volunteer website, was launched in February 2018 to promote, manage, and track volunteer opportunities in our region.
All Miami students, faculty, and staff on Oxford, Hamilton, and Middletown campuses have access to the site with their unique ID and password. You can now sign up directly for volunteer opportunities with local/regional non-profits, communicate with community partners, track volunteer hours, and register for events all in one place.

Bob Woodward - How We Got Here: The State of the American Presidency

Bob Woodward, an Associate Editor of the Washington Post, has shared in two Pulitzer Prizes, first in 1973 for coverage of the Watergate scandal with Carl Bernstein which produced the book, All the President’s Men, and second in 2003 as the lead reporter for coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
No one else in political investigative journalism has the clout, respect, and reputation of Woodward. He has a way of getting insiders to open up in ways that reveal an intimate yet sweeping portrayal of Washington and the political maneuvering of its denizens, including how presidents lead.
Woodward has authored 19 books. Fear: Trump in the White House, became a #1 international bestseller, selling over 1.1 million copies in its first week in September 2018, breaking a 94-year-old sales record for its publisher Simon & Schuster. Rage, published September 2020, and based on 18 interviews Woodward had with Trump, instantly hit the top of the best seller lists. No one digs deeper or has provided a more detailed or penetrating portrait of the presidents from Nixon to Trump than Bob Woodward.
Bob Schieffer of CBS News has said, “Woodward has established himself as the best reporter of our time. He may be the best reporter of all time.”
