S.C.R.A.P. Gallery 101

Welcome to our latest issue of Recycled Content, where we update you on what is happening at the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery. For those of you who don't know what we do, we work with students of all ages to provide environmental education in the most creative ways! Through programs on site at our museum or at local schools, we are committed to diverting materials from our landfills and waterways.

To Our Global Community

Our mission is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through a concentrated, hands-on, educational effort to build a creative culture of sustainability in our schools and community.
Guided by our mission and through our programs, we are committed to working to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable future for people and the planet.

S.C.R.A.P. provides a link between industry, education, the arts, and the environment. Its programs feature environmental presentations, exhibits, workshops, and interactive lessons – using reused and recycled materials from the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery Warehouse, directly diverting materials from the landfill.

The greatest gift we can give is making the world a better place. Thank you for helping us do that through the programs and projects we dedicate to protecting our environment.

Ongoing & Upcoming
  • LEFTOVERS - S.C.R.A.P. Gallery invites artists to submit works to be included in their exhibition LEFTOVERS – Repurposing What Remains.
LEFTOVERS is open to artists who create sustainably-driven art from repurposed, recycled, and found objects and materials. Artists are encouraged to submit works that cleverly reuse, repurpose, or upcycled materials considered leftovers, creating thought-provoking work. Artwork should focus on one (or more) of five exploratory themes: food waste, climate change, recycling, plastic pollution, and pollinator protection. Submit photos of work to info@scrapgallery.org by January 15, 2023.
  • GLOBE - Girls Leading One Better Environment
Supporting and promoting quality education for girls on a global front is fundamental in an environment facing the increasing impacts of climate change. A 2017 Brookings report by Christina Kwauk and Amanda Braga, Three Platforms for Girls’ Education in Climate Strategies, “suggests that girls’ education can strengthen climate strategies in three ways: by empowering girls and advancing their reproductive health and rights, fostering girls’ climate leadership and pro-environmental decision-making, and developing girls’ green skills for green jobs.”

In that effort, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is initiating the GLOBE (Girls Leading One Better Environment) Project, which will support green education for girls through scholarships, partnerships, and visual arts.

If you are a middle school student or student group looking to get started and get involved, contact us at info@scrapgallery.org. We are ready to go!
  • Youth Service America - S.C.R.A.P. Gallery has been designated as a Lead Agency for 2022-23 to participate in service projects including 9/11 Day of Service, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Global Youth Service Day.
  • S.C.R.A.P. Exchange - At the S.C.R.A.P Gallery, we maintain a materials and exchange program for local businesses, schools and residents. These donated materials are available for teachers, schools, artists and community groups to reuse for projects.
School Field Trips To S.C.R.A.P. Gallery
Our K-12 waste prevention education/environmental enrichment field trips are held at our Cathedral City space located at 68743 Perez Road. Students enjoy an interactive tour of our permanent and/or changing exhibitions designed to explore local and global environmental issues, critical thinking skills, and promote cross-cultural understanding.

Each field trip includes an environmental presentation followed by a self-directed art workshop using recycled and reused materials collected from local businesses and manufacturers. The time and content of presentations vary according to age and grade. Reservations required.  Contact us at info@scrapgallery.org or call 760/861-6479.

On The Road
S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is also a museum on the move, bringing it’s award-winning environmental education, interactive exhibits and art programs to you with our Recycle Road Trip. Our programs invite students to explore, learn, touch, create and make a difference. Discover why the S.C.R.A.P.
