THE 5TH AVENUE THEATRE OFFERS THE LAMPLIGHTER RADIO PLAY TO DIGITAL SUBSCRIBERS
The Lamplighter
The Lamplighter is a new musical with a book by Sara Porkalob, music and lyrics by Justin Huertas (Fest '20, Lizard Boy), and story by Kirsten “Kiki” deLohr Helland, Huertas, and Porkalob. The performance concludes the trio of Musical Radio Plays The 5th Avenue Theatre will produce in its 2020/21 digital season. Porkalob, Huertas, and deLohr Helland are Seattle-based actors and creatives who have all previously performed at The 5th Avenue Theatre; Porkalob in Rock of Ages, Huertas in Grease, and deLohr Helland as Maria in Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, among others. The Lamplighter marks their debut as creators at The 5th. Released as a vivid, multi-episode podcast series that will be available for streaming in July of 2021, this production of The Lamplighter is only available as a part of an Essential 5th Digital Collection subscription until July 29th.
In a magical land, the world’s Lamplighter—collector of stories and caretaker of the stars—and her daughter Rosemary live in a house on a cliff at the edge of the ocean, content with continuing the work of generations of Lamplighters before them. But when the Lamplighter doesn’t return home one morning, Rosemary must set out on an epic quest to find her mother before all of the stars in the night sky burn out. A multi-generational musical fairy tale about adventure, magic, and the power of love, The Lamplighter reminds us that all of our stories are worthy and that the stories we need to hear are often the ones we least expect.

Harrison, an impassioned vintage record shop owner, is obsessed with LPs while hipster Rodeo Girl is obsessed with him. With the Melrose store about to go under, the two are visited by a mysterious stranger with a devilish offer that could change their young lives – but at what cost? Featuring a smart, original score influenced by The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Ben Folds, Stephen Sondheim, and Brian Wilson, this offbeat musical comedy wraps big philosophical questions in a quirky little love story… think Faust meets Nora Ephron.
Music and Lyrics by Paul Gordon (Fest '06, Jane Austen's Emma; Fest '13, Analog and Vinyl) with book by Paul Gordon and Michael Berresse. The Broadway Rose production is directed by Sharon Maroney with music direction from Jeffrey Childs.

SCOTT GILMOUR & CLAIRE MCKENZIE (FEST '19,  HI, MY NAME IS BEN) PRESENT NEW MUSICAL PODCAST ATLANTIC: A SCOTTISH STORY
Atlantic: A Scottish Story
Book by Scott Gilmour, Lyrics by Scott Gilmour and Music by Claire McKenzie (Fest '19, Hi, My Name is Ben)
Atlantic is an original 8-part podcast musical that is set on one of Scotland's most remote and forgotten islands; St Kilda. This island now lies empty, but it was once home to one of the hardiest communities in Scotland. This series follows the story of two young islanders, Evie and Quinn, and the paths they both choose as the island around them begins to change forever.
The podcast features an original story and songs by Noisemaker, traditional Gaelic music sung by celebrated Scots singer Ainsley Hamill and real-life recordings from the island itself. Cast include Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), Richard Rankin (Outlander), Danielle Fiamanya (Frozen (West End)/& Juliet) and David Hayman (The Boy In Striped Pyjamas).
Atlantic is a co-production between Noisemaker, and Scotland's leading podcast network, The Big Light. The series was supported by Creative Scotland. The project was recorded entirely in quarantine; with all cast and musicians never actually meeting in the same space. It's been a total product of the pandemic and has encouraged its writers to explore a new way of storytelling and producing.
The podcast is released weekly up until the final episode on August 9th, and can be streamed wherever folk listen to podcasts. Click here for more information and to subscribe.
MERCURY MUSICAL DEVELOPMENTS AND MUSICAL THEATRE NETWORK PRESENT HYBRID BEAM2021 NEW MUSICAL FESTIVAL
BEAM 2021
Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) and Musical Theatre Network (MTN), in association with Hackney Empire and stream.theatre, announce the hybrid BEAM2021, the third presentation of their biennial industry showcase of new British musical theatre following the postponement of BEAM2020. Audiences can also enjoy the Stiles and Drewe (Fest '99, Honk!; Fest '13, The Three Little Pigs; Fest '16, Soho Cinders) Best New Song Prize Concert.
BEAM is the UK's biggest showcase of new musical theatre and BEAM2021 will be a hybrid, digital and live event, happening live at Hackney Empire and live streamed (or on demand) via stream.theatre on Friday, September 10th. There will be pitches from 38 new musicals in development, some pre-filmed, with ideas ranging from daytime bhangra raves, to climate change told as a love story, from challenging the UK’s hostile environment policy to singing lesbian pirates, as well as panel discussions and networking.
In 2019, MMD and MTN travelled across the UK to hear pitches from more than 320 new musicals and curated a showcase of fabulously diverse shows in a variety of stages of developments, so they can be presented to potential development partners, producers and audiences.
For the first time, and responding to the covid pandemic, BEAM will also be showcased online via live stream and on demand options, allowing even more people across the UK, and internationally, to experience up and coming new British musicals. Click here for more information.
PHILADELPHIA THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS MINI-DOCUMENTARY THE TATTOOED LADY: MAKE YOUR MARK
The Tattooed Lady: Make Your Mark
The Tattooed Lady, a developing new musical from Max Vernon and Erin Courtney, along with director and co-developer Ellie Heyman, is coming to Philadelphia Theatre Company in Fall 2022!  A mini-documentary about the making of the musical, directed by Paige Price, was released online on June 29th.
The Tattooed Lady team will be introduced to audiences in the 20-minute mini-documentary called The Tattooed Lady: Make Your Mark.  This mini-doc reveals what it’s like for a creative team to make a new musical during “pandemic times.” Featuring a mix of behind-the-scenes collaboration, musical segments from a concert of the material at Joe’s Pub, and other surprises from Philly, this teaser will make its own mark and show you why we were so excited to commission these artists.
The story of The Tattooed Lady highlights one of sideshow’s biggest stars, Ida Gibson, in a moving, fantastical tale that reveals the ultimate bond between mother and daughter. Featuring a parade of beguiling characters with both visible and invisible marks, the musical celebrates the resilience of women whose choices have the potential to liberate them.  The Tattooed Lady is a musical meditation on beauty, perversity, shattering of taboos, and a woman’s right to control her body and choose her destiny.
The Tattooed Lady. which received a Writers Residency grant from NAMT, will be Philadelphia Theatre Company’s first commission under Artistic Director Paige Price’s leadership. Watch the mini-documentary on Philadelphia Theatre Company's YouTube page.

Le Comte Noir is a brand new musical about the untold story of the real Count Of Monte Cristo. Alexandre Dumas is struggling with writer's block. To beat it he must reconcile what happened to his father — the wrongfully imprisoned Haitian-born hero of the French Revolution and rival to Napoleon — a legacy that inspired what many consider the son’s greatest literary work. Commissioned by Manhattan School of Music's New Musicals Initiative, Le Comte Noir was also developed at a TheatreWorks Silicon Valley Writer's Retreat, and a part of the Michigan State University New Musical Dramaturgy Project. This developmental premiere was made possible by MSM's Cultural Inclusion Initiative.
The production is available to stream on Broadway On Demand February 26 - August 31.
