The following items went missing from the Art Education hallway near the Advanced Painting studios at DAAP on the 5th Floor. The items include:
  • Black tool box with students name on it.
  • Craftsman Drill that belonged to the students father.
  • Assorted tools and drill bits.
  • Wooden art box with oil paints and brushes.
PLEASE return these items…no questions asked ….to the school of art office as soon as possible. This is a community of makers and community of artists. If you have mistakenly taken these items …. please return them. If you see any items with "Yanosik" written on it in the building, please return them to them office, or report it.

May 9     Jordan Tate will be hosting a SOA Fulbright info session for anyone interested on @ 11 in 4880A. The Fulbright Fellowship (and other grants we will discuss) are open to both BFA and MFA students (and recent Alumni) and fund either individual Studio / Research practice or Graduate study abroad. RSVP to jordan.tate@uc.edu if you are coming so I can send you some preliminary information. Regardless of whether or not you apply this round, the meeting will be useful for preliminary planning and scheduling in preparation for your applications.

DAAP is offering the Mind Body class this summer from May 31-July 26, 6:30-8:30 pm here in DAAP.  more Space is limited to the first 10 students who complete the application and commit to attending all of the course meetings.
Two of MFA student Kaveh Baghdadchi’s photographs have been accepted to be featured in the exhibition THIS IS NOW in Columbus, OH! The opening reception is Thursday, May 11 from 6 PM-8 PM at Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Carnegie Gallery, and the show will run until June 24. THIS IS NOW is an exhibition for artworks exploring issues of "Identity in 2017" organized by ROY G BIV Gallery.

Call For Entries & Scholarship Opportunities

The Cincinnati Arts Association has released their fifth edition of the Greater Cincinnati Exhibition Opportunities Guide, which can be viewed and downloaded for free. Check it out to see nearly 200 places in Cincinnati that are interested in showing student work.
SOS Art 2017 is looking for art focusing on “sociopolitical expressions for peace and justice.” All art forms are welcome to submit their work by May 15. The show will take place at the Art Academy of Cincinnati from June 2-11. A link to the application form can be found on their website (to the left, under the Call to Artists flyer).
Young Sculptors ages 25 – 35 as of competition entry are invited to submit representational/realism sculptures in a biennial juried competition for the 2017 $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award. Entrants should have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent. The winner will become part of the Miami University Young Sculptors of the Twenty-First Century Collection. The post-mark deadline is Thursday, June 8. Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans is calling for submissions to their 21st Annual No Dead Artists International Juried Exhibition. Submit art of any media to receive critiques from jurors and renowned artists Helen Toomer, Gia Hamilton, and Bettina Stiewe. The grand prize winner will be given a solo show for 2018. The deadline for applications is June 16, 2017 by 11:59 PM. For all other questions, contact gallery manager Cyntelle Renteria.
The 5th Catholic International Art Competition is now open to artists of any nationality or religion 19 years of age or older. Works must have been created within the past three years and not previously released for other competitions or prizes. Submissions are due between September 19-26 for preliminary screening. The grand prize award is $43,000 USD with other cash prizes available. More details and the theme summary are available here.
On October 13-14, 2017, the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History, Wayne State University, will host SculptureX Symposium 2017, with the co-sponsorship of the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, Saginaw Valley State University. The symposium will feature two keynote speakers; panel presentations; professional development, speaking, and exhibition opportunities for sculpture and extended media students; numerous exhibitions which will take place on and off campus; and networking opportunities for students, faculty, and artists. Schooloutfitters is looking for an intern, around 20 hours a week (possibly more) to aid in our photo studio production and retouching process. The position is paid, but the hourly rate would vary depending on the applicant’s experience. This would be for most of the summer but may start sooner. The ideal candidate would be very familiar with Photoshop, is experienced & proficient in drawing paths, modifying paths, modifying colors, making selections, and other various retouching tasks. The Art Workshop at Queen City Clay has an art teaching position and a pottery wheel teaching assistant position open for their summer camp. The teaching position requires someone from 10 AM-4 PM from June 5-August 11. Vacation weeks are possible and weekends are free. Photographers are needed at Camp Kesem, a student ran organization at UC that provides a summer camp each year to children who have been affected by their parent's cancer. They are currently looking for 4-6 student volunteers to be photographers for the camp at Camp Campbell Guard this summer.
