Author Sally Asher will take you through the beautiful cemeteries of Paris for a night of discovery. Learn about some of the many connections between them and our own New Orleans cemeteries. Hear about their illustrious residents, unusual tombs, and mysterious symbols. The lecture will feature Sally's own photos taken when she was there last year.

Light refreshments will be served. Doors open at 6 pm, Lecture starts at 6:30 pm.

Lecture will be held at the Event Center at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Plenty of parking is available. Venue is wheelchair accessible.

The Annual Run & Walk Through History

1K & 5K Run/Walk is Sunday, March 26, 2023

Every year Save Our Cemeteries hosts the largest cemetery race in the United States.

Join us for the race but also enjoy the music, beer, and food! Bring the whole family to this fun event.

The 1K & 5K Run/Walk courses lace through historic Metairie Cemetery, one of the most famous & historic cemeteries of the South. Established in 1872, the area was previously Metairie horse racetrack and is now a national landmark. The cemetery offers a picturesque tour of Louisiana’s history that includes the resting places of many past governors, mayors, military leaders, and prominent men & women of the business, cultural, political, and social life of New Orleans.

The story of New Orleans begins here. No city celebrates life, or death, quite like New Orleans. Come learn about jazz funerals. Find out why most of our dead are buried above-ground. Hear tales of the famous soldiers, statesmen, musicians, and even Storyville madams who rest in our Cities of the Dead. Our tours are both historically accurate and entertaining. (You can’t make this stuff up!) Most importantly, proceeds from our tours go to preserving our unique cemeteries.
