Family Decision Survey

MLK Families,

As you will recall, Metro Schools sent out a survey asking families to decide whether you wanted your students to attend virtually or in-person when health conditions allow for it.

When we asked you to fill out the survey, it was for the rest of the school year, with an option to change your decision prior to the start of the second semester.

Starting on Monday, November 30, through Friday, December 4, MNPS will open up a new survey to allow you to change your decision if you so choose. The survey will be accessible at mnps.org/decision-survey starting on Monday.

Important Considerations/Reminders:

This survey only applies to the second semester, starting in January 2021.

Once the decision is made, it will be final. This is to allow us to appropriately allocate staff resources to meet the needs of all students.

Decisions on when schools will be open to students for in-person learning will be made by the District based on Nashville’s COVID-19 community spread, with the safety and well-being of students, staff, and their families being a top priority.

Students who attend school will be required to wear masks and/or school-provided face shields at all times except when actively eating or drinking or socially distanced outdoors unless they have a documented and approved medical accommodation.

Families are asked to keep students home if they are sick to prevent the spread of the virus in schools.

Our school nurse program will assist the Metro Public Health Department with monitoring the spread of the virus.

If a student or teacher tests positive for the coronavirus, students who are within six feet of that person for 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period will be required to quarantine for 14 days to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.

District decisions on when to restart the phase-in process and allow for in-person learning at schools will be based on the community spread of COVID-19 and will be announced separately.

December 2020 Exams and Exemption Policy

Parents and Guardians:

Reminder of the Examinations and Exemption from the Semester Examinations policy. An excerpt from the policy is below.

MLK gives exams to all students enrolled (7th – 12th grade). We follow the high school schedule. Exams will end at 11:20 am each day.

Semester Examinations

Final semester examinations are to be given in all 9-12 courses during the regular school year.  The Chief Academic Officer or his/her designee must approve exceptions to this rule.  Exams may not be given more than one time.  Students may not type, grade, or handle other students’ exams.  Students may not be dismissed from class during exams.  Cheating on an exam will result in the lowest possible grade, according to the grading policy, being given for the final exam grade (see IM 4.144).  Students may not take exams early. If a student must miss an exam, the principal may give permission for the student to make up the exam at a later time.

The 2020 December Exam schedule is below. All students from 7th – 12th grade will follow this exam schedule. Exams will end at 11:20 am each day. Exams will take place during the time frames listed below.
