Road Tested: Raptors depending on defense in toughest trial of the year
By Joe Williams • Sports Editor

Jordan Moore. Bryan McKay. Jeffery Yoshihara. Brad Bloedorn.

Not the most recognizable names on a Ravenwood defense that has been the key to the Raptors’ 13-0 record and looming road trip Friday night to Memphis Whitehaven in the TSSAA Class 6A state semi-finals. If the Raptors are to take the final step to the finals next week, those are important names.

“Our defensive line play has been the difference between an average defense last year and being a very good defense this year,” head coach Will Hester said of the quartet that share time in the three man front that has held opponents to an average of less than ten points a game, most of those coming when the contest was already decided.

Attend Sesquicentennial events this weekend!

This month marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin. And while there is an annual commemoration of the Battle of Franklin with a luminary display Sunday hosted at Historic Carnton Plantation, more events abound.

Many organizations, including the Battle of Franklin Trust, Civil War Trust, Franklin’s Charge, The Lotz House, City of Franklin, Franklin Civil War Roundtable and more, have made sure that there are plenty of activities for visitors to attend in honor of this milestone.

The Battle of Franklin Illumination will honor fallen soldiers at Carnton Plantation at 4:45 p.m. Check out the event list with happenings scheduled throughout the weekend.

Red flags fly in memory of care given during the Battle of Franklin

By Pam Horne • Managing Editor

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, bells will ring from the towers of three churches in downtown Franklin in a solemn and significant commemorative event.

First United Methodist, Franklin’s Historic Presbyterian and St. Paul’s Episcopal will signal the day and the exact hour when the Battle of Franklin unfolded.

As re-enactors, both Union and Confederate soldiers, gather in their respective regiments to begin the annual Nov. 30th March through the downtown streets of Franklin residents and visitors will notice another symbol hanging from homes and public buildings — the flying of the red flag to signal a hospital’s presence on the battlefield.

Brentwood, Ravenwood lead hockey standings at break

Joe Williams • Sports Editor

Ravenwood and Brentwood are tied at the top of the Tier 1 standings of the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey (GNASH) league as the teams take a break for the Thanksgiving Holidays.

Ravenwood’s 6-1-1 record is a half-game better than Brentwood (6-2-0), but the Bruins extra loss came in a shoot-out, garnering Brentwood the extra point needed to tie the Raptors with 13 points.

Hendersonville holds the third spot in the top tier, just one point behind the two leaders. Father Ryan (7 points) and Centennial (6 points) are fighting to remain in the playoff picture.
