Polling Project
Professor Wood is helping to run the Lines in America Project this Election Day.  We are a group of 20 or so political scientists, from all over the country, who are training students to observe the lines at polling stations and gather data on what they observe.  We will be sending students in pairs of two out to a randomly-selected (but not too inconveniently located) polling station for two hours of observation.

Here are the requirements:
  1. You have to attend a training session.  There will be a few of them, on campus, half an hour or so.
  2. You may not skip class for this exercise.
  3. You need to be able to find a way to get to the polling station. You’ll be in pairs, so hopefully you are either willing to give a ride, get a ride, ride a bus/train, or get an UBER/Lyft.
  4. You need to be able to fill out a chart and a form.  It’s not hard, but it does require sustained, serious attention for 2 hours.  No screens during that time.
Here’s what you get in return:
  1. A very cool civic experience on election day!
  2. The pleasure of doing social science!
  3. Maybe a new friend in your observation partner!
  4. Professor Wood’s appreciation!
If you’re interested, please get in touch with Professor Wood at awood@law.usc.edu, with LINES in the subject line.
Get published in UCLA’s 2016-2017 Undergraduate Law Journal
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE AT 10PM ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2016.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the legal field or have an interest in legal and political issues, consider becoming a writer or editor for the UCLA Undergraduate Law Journal! The UCLA Undergraduate Law Journal is open to undergraduate entries, making it one of the few undergraduate law reviews in the country modeled after the laws reviews of top law schools.
The UCLA Pre-Law Society's Undergraduate Law Journal is an annual publication of student-composed articles on law related topics. In the past, students have submitted essays covering a wide range of subjects—from dealing with recent cases and legislation to delving into topics such as public policy, economics, civil rights, international relations, legal philosophy, and legal history.
Participating undergraduates are offered a unique opportunity to contribute to a discussion of some of today's most critical issues while developing professional legal research and writing skills. Students with strong writing skills are encouraged to apply for our open positions in writing and editing. Prior writing and editing experience is helpful, but not necessary. Selected writers and editors are paired and work together from December to April in composing one article for publication.

The Undergraduate Law Journal is distributed to the TOP 50 U.S. law schools and admission directors who attend UCLA's Annual Law Forum (the largest student-run law forum in the nation). The deans and assistant deans of admission that we have spoken to have been consistently impressed by the articles that they read each year in this unique publication. Finally, this is a wonderful way to learn about legal writing and research— skills that will certainly be beneficial in the admissions process as well as in law school itself.

Any questions can be emailed to ucla.lawjournal@gmail.com. Applications are available online at uclaprelawsociety.org/law-journal/
All completed applications should be emailed to ucla.lawjournal@gmail.com
