A Dash of Love...

For the Kitty Who Gives So Much To Others

At the beginning of 2023, Dash returned from his brief outdoor adventure, which he has done most days of his 10 years of life. Yet this time his bottom canine tooth is sticking out over his lip. He had no other injuries so we had no clue what happened. The next day the vet says per x-ray he has broken his jaw on both sides of the canine tooth, the tooth will be removed & the jaw will be wired at each break. He will also need a feeding tube, fed every 4 hours, for 6 weeks & change bandages frequently.  

This is devastating to my husband & I because we've already been through so much with my husband’s illnesses. I’m his 24-hour caretaker & now our precious Dash is hurt and it's going to cost a substantial amount of money we don't have. Thankfully I was able to find Brown Dog Foundation who was willing to grant help with the procedure/aftercare of our treasured Dash.

During the month of May, we received $1.75 million in requested assistance - this is a record all-time high. We were able to assist 1 family during the month of May.

During the month of June, so far, we have received $987,000 in requested assistance. We have assisted 1 family this month and have 1 application in process. We have extended 2 families Initial Vet Visit Approvals this month and we have provided Education Assistance to 174 families so far this year.

We're thankful to help these families, but we continue to say "no" much more often than we say "yes."

A Gaming Streamathon Save Lives

How a Passion for Gaming and Dogs is Helping Brown Dog Foundation Save Pets 

In 2020, during the pandemic, Nia and Diggy were stuck at home, so Nia began playing video games with friends online. One of Nia’s friends wanted to watch her play-through of Breath of the Wild (a Zelda Game). Initially, Nia would put her on Facetime on her phone and point the phone at the Nintendo Switch so she could watch… After a while they decided to try streaming even though no one else would be watching. Eventually they found the Twitch Platform, which allows for streaming Video Games and built their own Community.

It’s actually common for people to run charity stream video-a-thons. So, on Nia’s 2nd “streaming anniversary” she decided to direct the money to a charity. They raised $1205, and played for 24 hours straight! They played nine different video games that day. Through the charity stream, Nia was able to grow her subscriber base that day by 7. More than 80 people logged in to watch the charity stream throughout the day. Five streamers “raided” Nia’s charity stream, which means when their stream ended, they directed their viewers to Nia’s charity stream, which helped increase visibility for her charity stream!

In the three years Nia, Eric and Diggy have been supporting Brown Dog Foundation, they’ve contributed nearly $2,000 to the cause.
