We are excited to begin yet another season filled with exciting programming that reflects the diversity of our community and introduces students, teachers, families, and artists to the arts of the world! We appreciate all of the support we have had since our inception in 1996 and opening in 1997, and we look forward to continuing to showcase local, regional, national, and international artists throughout the year!
Each year, we pick a special focus in the humanities and tie some of our programming to that focus. This year, we are exploring Three Roots of Appalachia: Indigenous, Black, and Scots-Irish, as well as reflecting on the presence of newer arrivals in Appalachia from Spanish-speaking countries and how this blending of roots is reflected in the stories, music, dance, culinary arts, and crafts of the region. Stay tuned for authors, musicians, dancers, craftspeople, exhibits, dialogues, and documentary films tying our roots together as one beautiful and ever-expanding human family!
Three Roots of Appalachia is funded in part by a grant from Humanities Tennessee, an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
