Happy Holidays Everyone! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As finals week is around the conor (like literally next week), this will be the last newsletter for the fall semester. We encourage you to take time to check out this week's pre-law opportunities (including a free LSAT workshop).

Pre-Law Walk-In Hours
Advisors will NOT be holding walk-in advising hours this week. 
    Pre-Law Advising Appointments
    Appointments are available Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. Please call the GFS Front Desk (213-740-2534) to schedule an appointment with an advisor or email prelaw@usc.edu to meet with a current USC Law student.
    All advising appointments and walk-ins will be seen in GFS 315.

    Phi Alpha Delta & Testmasters LSAT Workshop - Tomorrow (11/30/16)
    Phi Alpha Delta and Testmasters will be hosting a free LSAT Logic Games Workshop on Wednesday, November 30th from 7:00PM - 8:15PM in the School of Social Work building (SOS)Room B4. All USC students are welcome!
    he workshop will be conducted by Austin Stack, a veteran TestMasters instructor with an LSAT score in the 99th percentile and a J.D. from Harvard. Attendees will be challenged with a set of difficult logic games and Austin will demonstrate the most effective methods for tackling them. If you are interested in law school and want to crush the LSAT, don’t miss this great opportunity!

    LAW OFFICE OF MICHAEL J. MALONEY - Seeking Administrative Assistant
    Small law office in downtown LA seeks a part-time (12-25 hours per week) administrative assistant to start immediately. The practice focuses principally on business/corporate transactional matters, with an emphasis on representing business clients from Asia, and also includes representation of charities in the USA, general employment matters, and some international business matters.
    The successful applicant must be: familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel; generally proficient with computers and the internet; able to format and proofread contracts and other documents; fluent in the English language; capable of conscientiously following up on assignments and exercising initiative; detail-oriented and excellent at organizing files, documents and calendars; cordial and professional in demeanor; and punctual and reliable. 
    Duties include billing and bookkeeping work, word processing, and general office and administrative responsibilities. Knowledge of billing/accounting programs (especially Quickbooks) is an advantage.
    Willing to consider a college student or a recent college graduate who is serious and responsible, as well as energetic and eager to learn quickly about how a small law office operates, and who may have an interest in pursuing a career in law or in business with legal matters.
    The hourly compensation rate is negotiable.

    2017 Sidley Prelaw Scholars Program
    “Sidley has a significant commitment to achieving greater ethnic and racial diversity within the legal profession and the firm.  We wanted to develop a program that would widen the pipeline by helping to eliminate barriers at an earlier stage in a student’s career,” said Carter Phillips, chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee.  “Our diversity committee and staff are to be congratulated for developing this creative approach.”
    Program Elements
    • 2018 Sidley Scholars Summer Seminar, a multiple-day introduction to the structure of the American legal system and substantive instruction on the traditional first-year law school courses and instruction in how to succeed in law school, as well as an opportunity to meet Sidley lawyers and other leaders in the legal community.  The Sidley Scholars Summer Seminar is for Scholars who are starting law school immediately following the Summer Seminar.
    • Scholars will receive up to $2,500 to pay tuition for selected LSAT preparation courses, as well as reimbursement of application fees for as many as seven law schools. 
    • Scholars further may be eligible to receive an additional $2,500 scholarship award, in two installments.  Scholars will receive $1,250 when they have (1) successfully completed an approved LSAT preparatory course, (2) taken the LSAT, and (3) applied to at least five accredited law schools. Finally, each Scholar will receive a final $1,250 scholarship distribution once the Scholar has informed Sidley that he or she has been accepted to, and is committed to start law school at, an accredited law school and has attended the entire Sidley Scholars Summer Seminar in the summer immediately preceding the Scholar’s matriculation at that law school.

    USC Gould Continuing Legal Education - Paid Network Opportunity 
    The USC Gould School of Law’s Continuing Legal Education office would like to inform you of a paid networking opportunity for students.  Each year, our office hosts legal seminars on various topics.  For each seminar, we hope to enlist the help of USC students.  The upcoming fall seminars are Institute on Entertainment Law and Business, 42st Annual Trust and Estate Conference and the 2016 Institute for Corporate Counsel.  The final seminar will be held on Wednesday, December 7th. The spring seminars are our annual Tax Institute, Real Estate Institute, and IP Institute.
    Those who participate will be supplied with breakfast and lunch on the day of the events, as well as $10 per hour for their efforts.
