Hello Richmond District Residents and Merchants,

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, an opportunity to remember victims and survivors, raise awareness of what domestic violence is, how to recognize it, and what can be done to prevent it.  Domestic Violence Awareness Month was launched nationwide in October 1987, as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues, while raising awareness for those issues.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) consider that, over the past 30+ years, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abusers accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals.

In June, San Francisco voters passed Proposition D,  giving Domestic Violence victims a right to free civil legal counsel through the Office of Victim and Witness Rights.
