Banjo Lessons Just For You
Hi Everyone!
The new CD is here! My brother produced this surprise birthday recording for my mom's 70th birthday this year. It features 23 of Murphy's original songs performed by 25 amazing women in bluegrass, including Rhonda Vincent, Alice Gerrard, Kathy Kallick, Kristin Scott Benson, Gina Furtado, and myself. I play banjo on six cuts and sing on a couple.
You can get it on disc right here, and there is also a link to download it.

Singing Slow Jam This Sunday
Murphy and I will lead a Zoom slow jam of all singing songs this Sunday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
We will play in the keys of G, A, and C. It is the perfect opportunity to practice hearing your chord changes, vamp, and to use your roly polys to come up with lead breaks. It is also great for other instruments (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, etc...).

Here are the new lessons I've recorded. They are available to order on the special newsletter order page. The price is 2-for-$30.
- Dixie Hoedown (A) Watch clip. - This is a classic Jim and Jesse tune. This tasty break comes from the playing of Bobby Thompson on their original 1958 recording.
- Miss McLeod's Reel (aka Did You Ever See The Devil, Uncle Joe) (A) Watch clip - This is a traditional fiddle tune in the key of G or A. (I teach it in G.) It is an old arrangement of mine honed over years of jam session that I pulled out and dusted off to teach.
- Rolling Backup in G (I) - Watch clip. - A frequent question I get from students is about how to play rolling backup underneath the singing. This lesson shows you the basic pattern--a roly poly-like structure that you can later expand and upgrade.
