Hunters Lane Graduate and owner of Save A Lot stores in two states

Jason Word, a 1989 graduate of Hunters Lane High School, owns and operates Save A Lot stores in Nashville, Memphis and Oklahoma, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, a longtime Nashville grocery store owner. Word and his team work hard to tailor each store to the needs of its community and customers.

Teaching came naturally to Audrey Moore from a young age. As the oldest kid in her Georgia neighborhood, she took her teaching and leadership role seriously. Decades later, Moore is still energized by education and has been with Metro Schools for 35 years.

Today, Feb. 18 through March 22: Students encouraged to register for fun, free Promising Scholars summer learning program

Promising Scholars goes from June 2 through June 30 at nearly 60 school sites across the city for students entering grades K-12 in August. It offers students a fun, free experience and includes breakfast and lunch each day, as well as transportation. Some sites will offer after-care. 

Tomorrow, Feb. 19, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m:  Metro Schools Teacher Hiring Fair

Future teachers – and those who want to transfer to MNPS – are invited to join Metro Schools principals and human resources representatives at the district’s in-person hiring fair this Saturday, February 19.
Metro Schools currently offers the highest educator pay in the state for teachers and is offering bonuses for specific positions.

Saturday, Feb. 26: Proyect LEAD Youth Series begins

Be About Change has some spots remaining in their 8-week Project LEAD series that begins Saturday, Feb. 26. In addition to their existing partnerships, they are including a Vanderbilt University Medical Center career day for students and families, as well as expanded classes, such as art and additional leadership programming with Youth Advocate Programs.

March 1-31: 2022-23 Pre-K initial application period begins

Families can begin to apply for Pre-K for the 2022-23 school year on March 1, 2022. We recommend families apply for Pre-K during the month of March to be included in the initial selection process. Families can still apply after the March 31 date and will be placed as vacancies occur.
The online 2022-23 Pre-K application will be available by 9 a.m. March 1; however families can obtain a Student ID prior to completing/submitting an online Pre-K Application.
A child must be four years old on or before August 15, 2022 to be eligible for the 22-23 Pre-K program. We also have programs that accept children who are three years old, and a child must be three years of age on or before August 15, 2022 to be eligible for the 22-23 program.
Note: We are still accepting 2021-22 MNPS Pre-K applications.  Click here for information.
REMINDER FOR FAMILIES WITH RISING KINDERGARTENERS
The kindergarten application process for school year 2022-23 started Feb.14
. Click here for information. A child must be five years old on or before August 15, 2022 to be eligible for kindergarten for the 22-23 school year.
All families can visit www.mnps.org/register-for-school to register online using the Online Registration Portal. If another language besides English is spoken in the home, families will also need to call the Office of English Learners (EL) to make an EL Assessment appointment at 615-259-8608 or email elreg@mnps.org.
