Clarksville Youth Orchestra to perform spring concert on May 9The Clarksville Youth Orchestra (CYO) will perform its Spring 2022 concert for the public at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 9, at the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall at Austin Peay State University.
The concert represents CYO’s first such concert since it joined the Community School of the Arts in January – and the first for CYO since before the pandemic. The concert is free and open to the public.
“The Melodic and Harmonic Orchestras have been working really hard and are ready to show the public what they have done,” said CYO Conductors Andrew Bailey and Zenas Alexander in a joint statement. “We are also excited to have a special guest, who shall remain a secret, coming to play with both groups in a don’t-want-to-miss performance.” Read more apsu.edu/news/may-2022

The Record: Sharon Mabry retires after a historic 52 yearsOn a gray November afternoon in 1970, a young pianist named Sharon Mabry received a frantic phone call. The Austin Peay State University Music Department needed her help. The program’s popular voice professor, Jack Hurt, had died suddenly that week, and someone had to take over his classes and finish out the semester. Read more apsu.edu/news/may-2022

CSA June Classes and WorkshopsRegistration is now open for CSA June Classes and Workshops. CSA is offering the hugely popular Art for Children and Advanced Art for Children classes. There are also classes for adults including the Writing for Military and Families class taught by Shana Thornton. This is a free class, open to active duty and veteran military personnel and military family members. The Writing for Military and Families course will offer opportunities to explore writing about the life experiences of military families. Also, there is a new 4hr workshop, "Plein Air" Landscape Painting taught by Jessica Fife. “Plein Air” simply put is the a French term for painting outside. It was a term that came from the French Impressionists as they picked up their easels and moved out into the landscape seeking to capture the illusion and feeling of light. All art supplies are provided.
