Beauty in the Making Moment
Another milestone moment has recently been achieved in our Longwood Reimagined project! We began installing the more than 50 pre-cast panels that will make up the façade of our new Restaurant and Event Space. One very special pre-cast panel included a replica datestone reminiscent of the stone placed during the Conservatory’s original construction. For structural integrity, the original stone had to be deconstructed during the project’s concrete work, so we duplicated the historic stone by taking clay impressions of the original datestone. The impressions were then converted into a three-dimensional model that was used to cut the new form using a Computer Numerically Controlled mill. The 15,000-pound panel was carefully moved into its place of honor, a poignant reminder of the legacy we steward each day at Longwood.
Want to learn more about Longwood Reimagined? Join Longwood staff on September 15 at 6:30 pm here in our Gardens for Longwood Reimagined Member Talks. Learn more about this extensive project, the work that has been done to date, and what's coming next. Registration is required for this free event.
Free, timed Member reservations are required for all Membership levels, except Gardens Premium Members and Innovators, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays if arriving after 3 pm through October 30.
