Active Citizen of the Month

The Active Citizen of the Month is our way of showing our student leaders how much we appreciate the good work they do in our community. Active Citizens give back and inspire others to do the same! Join us in celebrating our Active Citizen this month, Maddie Samuels. Learn more about Maddie and her work below. Thanks for all you do to make the world a better place, Maddie!
Madeleine Samuels (She/Her/Hers) is a senior majoring in Political Science with minors in Arabic and Nonprofit Administration who works in the Office of Student Life. She is a co-founder of The Michigan Youth Education Fund, which helps increase the accessibility and affordability of learning opportunities for students.
The Michigan Youth Education Fund is a nonprofit organization that my peers and I founded with the mission of helping Michigan students participate in extracurricular activities. It is our belief at MYEF that every student should be able to have the experience of extracurriculars, and that cost should not restrict anyone from participating in the activities that they desire. To help students who may not be able to afford extracurricular activities, we provide grants for practically any group/club activity that a school has. We have supported 178 students so far, and have distributed over $3000 in grants to date.
