Dear Class of 2027,

Check your home mailbox - we recently sent you a small Approaching Stanford Mailing! The items in the mailing are all informational and available online and in Canvas, so don't worry if it takes some time to reach you. We hope by now you've found your way to Approaching Stanford and have looked through our materials, noted the summer timeline, and have an understanding for what you'll need to do to prepare for Stanford.

First Year Housing

As a new student, you will submit your Housing Application as part of your Approaching Stanford Forms, due June 7. So this week's email is all about frosh housing! Last week, we introduced you to SLE and ITALIC, two of your frosh housing options that also are special year-long academic courses. This week, learn about:
Have a great week and reach out it you have questions!

Approaching Stanford Forms

If you haven't opened them yet, please log in now to ensure you have access to your Approaching Stanford Forms & Housing Application, which requires Two-Step Authentication.
Complete these required forms at your own pace and submit them by June 7. Equal consideration is given to everyone who submits by the deadline; we don't assign housing or courses based on the order you submit. Give yourself a few hours, work on them in any order, just save as you go!

Frosh Housing Options

Stanford has a widely diverse range of on-campus residences for undergraduate students; there is something for everyone! As a new student, you will be assigned to live in one of Stanford's eight Neighborhoods, which you and your friends will call "home" throughout your time here. Unless selected into a theme house, you will be assigned to a Neighborhood and to an all-frosh residence. (Note: You cannot select your specific Neighborhood or all-frosh residence.)
For incoming frosh, the Housing Application is part of your Approaching Stanford Forms, due June 7. Learn about these First-Year Housing Options, and rank them on your forms. You are required to rank all the options (except SLE and ITALIC, which require course enrollment):
Get a taste for living on The Farm by reading these frosh housing experiences of current Stanford students. Everyone is unique, so we encourage you to read these comments and attend info sessions, but pay attention to your own desires for your living environment. Rank the options based on where you think you'll best be able to thrive.
If you have general questions about Housing, post them in the First-Year Housing Q&A Board in Canvas. If you would like to discuss individual, private questions or concerns regarding your housing assignment, please send an email to approaching@stanford.edu

Theme Houses - Instagram & Zoom

Curious about our ethnic and academic theme houses? Living in a theme house for their first year has been often cited by students as being one of the most transformational experiences in their time at Stanford! To learn more, read students' experiences and check out the @approachingstanford Instagram which has been featuring a theme house each day. Post your questions in the Ethnic & Academic Theme House Q&A Board.

Zoom Info Sessions

Come to these Info Sessions, meet faculty, staff, and current Stanford students, and learn about living in some of Stanford's theme houses. Stanford authentication required - please download and use Stanford Zoom to join.

Medical Housing Accommodations

The mission of the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) is to promote an accessible and inclusive environment for all students with disabilities. If you think you will need a medical accommodation for your housing assignment this fall, please contact the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) and, if appropriate, register with them by June 30 for a housing accommodation. Examples of some housing accommodations are: carpet removal, room location on the first floor, installation of strobes and lights, need for a single room or private space, room location near single-user restroom, emotional support animal, and more.
To learn more about the Office of Accessible Education, academic and/or housing accommodations, and the registration process, please visit: oae.stanford.edu/students.
