Spring 2023 EASC Event Wrap!
This semester alone, EASC hosted over 20 in-person and virtual events for our students, faculty, staff and wider community. We want to thank you all for connecting with us and attending our events!
This semester, we continued our professionalization activities such as the Grad Professionalization Series and reintroduced the annual East Asia Career Panel with our fantastic alumni! It was also great to connect with our amazing students through the EASC Grad Mixer and three Undergrad EASC Meet & Greets! Additionally, we had the pleasure of welcoming two international delegations. We got to meet a group of Korean Education Influencers and showcase USC's growing interest in Korean studies. We also welcomed the Meiji University Delegation and celebrated our long-standing partnership.
EASC was also able to help our affiliated faculty (Nitin Govil, Jenny Chio, Sunyoung Park, Jacques Hymans) through the EASC Guest Speaker Series in enriching their course content by providing funds for guest lecturers from all over the world. We were also able to create an opportunity for our affiliated faculty to gather and celebrate each other's achievements at the EASC Spring Faculty Dinner
In addition, EASC sponsored panels on Himalayan Cheese Production organized by our visiting scholar, Kalzang Bhutia, and on Silk Road Material Culture in partnernship with the Dunhuang Foundation organized by Sonya Lee. We also co-sponsored, in partnership with the Ito Center and Center for Advanced Genocide Research, a talk by Sheldon Garon on civilian morale during wartime periods.
EASC also sponsored two events on our Postdoctoral Scholar Li-Ping Chen's research! Li-Ping and Tang Li organized two events and an exhibition on Dr. Theodore Chen, the founder of the East Asian Studies Center and the first professor of Chinese descent at USC. You can read all about Li-Ping's research and see her presentation here!
We are proud to be a Center that is able to connect students and faculty with resources and offer a space for community and learning! Keep up with us next academic year for another full calendar of exciting events.
