Bainbridge high School

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Hello Bainbridge High School community,
We are now a full three weeks into school. We have had successful pep assemblies welcoming our students back and creating community together, albiet a little different splitting grades up and holding the gatherings in the stadium. The energy our students have to be together in community is so gratifying and a wonderful reminder of the need for togetherness!
As the weather turns more fall-like and we anticipate more rain and cooling off, we will continue to explore ways to keep opportunities for our students to eat outside under cover. We are currently keeping the stadium open and have added additional tables and chairs under the covered area of the new 100 building and the Paski Gym. Like everything else, we will enlist student voice in helping us brainstorm ways to support these plans as there will be continued details to attend to as the year goes on as well.
A huge shoutout to our cafeteria staff serving over 500 lunches each day and to our incredible facilities and custodial team for their going and making it all run smoothly.

Go Spartans!

Join us on October 5th at 7pm for a BHS PTSO panel discussion about managing transitions.

Counselors from Bainbridge Youth Services and BHS will be on hand to discuss the adjustment we’re all going through with the return to school. The leap from middle school to high school is a difficult one for many and this year transitioning to a full day of school and managing the pandemic finds many of us wondering how to handle these transitions. We hope you’ll join us via Zoom for this informative panel.
Thanks to our BHS parents for their contributions to Candy Fridays! Another sign-up will be coming in October.

Funds collected through the sale of ASB cards support the operation of extracurricular activities. Additionally, students with ASB cards will enter all football and basketball games for FREE. To purchase an ASB card, go to our online payment site. If you need financial assistance, please go here for more information.
CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE

The Chromebook insurance window is open until Oct. 1.

Did you know that the cost to replace a damaged student Chromebook is $428 but the cost for accidental insurance coverage is $35 a year?
To minimize the risk of potential fines, we encourage all families with students in grades 5-12 to enroll in accidental insurance coverage. For more information about Chromebook accidental damage insurance, please follow this link to read the Student Device Insurance FAQ.

The window for signing up for the insurance closes on Friday, October 1. Click here to purchase the insurance.

Families facing financial challenges may request to have the insurance fee waived for this year through this online form

HEALTHY YOUTH SURVEY

BISD students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 will be participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey this fall.

The Healthy Youth Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. Specifically, BISD uses data from the HYS to help us refine our work regarding student health, well-being and safety as outlined in our District Improvement Plan.
The survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous.
Learn more about the Healthy Youth Survey here.
For information or questions about the Healthy Youth Survey please contact Executive Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning, Kristen Haizlip at khaizlip@bisd303.org.
BHS and EHHS students in grades 10 and 12 will participate in the survey on October 19 during 2nd period homeroom.
SMARTER BALANCE TESTING ~ OCT 21 & 22
Given the decision of OSPI to postpone last spring's Smarter Balance testing, we are now working to schedule these required assessments in the coming weeks. As in the past, the testing will be done in the morning on those dates, with non-testing students arriving at school after the sessions are complete.

Please make a note of the following dates:

October 21: Our 9th and 11th graders will arrive at school at their regular time for their English test. 12th graders will arrive for their WCAS (Science) assessment.

October 22: Our 9th and 11th graders only will arrive at school at their regular time for their Math test.

For non-testing students, school will begin at 10:30 am (10th graders on both dates, 12th on 10/22 only).

Bus transportation will not be available for the late start. If a student is dependent upon bus transportation to get to school, they should plan on catching their normal route, and will spend the morning in our library or commons, working independently until 10:30.

Thank you for your understanding, and we will be in communication with any other pertinent details prior to the test dates.
