The Saklan School. Pre-K Through 8. think. act. live
Dear Saklan Families,

I am so excited to be sharing details with you about our upcoming Annual Concert on Wednesday, March 29th at 4:30 PM. Our theme this year is Joy!-Music for the Whole World! Please remember that this is a required event for all Saklan students. The concert will be at The Dean Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. I know this venue and experience will be new for many of our families, while some others might have only a faint memory of the experience; should any difficulties arise while going over the details below, do not hesitate to contact me.

Day of Concert
Morning Dress Rehearsal
On Wednesday, March 29th we ask for all parents to drop their students off directly at The Lesher Center for a dress rehearsal (the Saklan Bus and Van will not pick up students that morning). We will meet at the backstage entrance on Locust Street. If this is not possible, please contact your room parent to arrange a carpool. If you cannot find a ride, let your classroom teacher know. Students should arrive at 8:45 AM, and certainly no later than 9:00 AM. There is construction in this area this year and the drop-off point may not be available. If this is the case, please park on the street or in the garage and walk your child to the plaza and directly to their teacher.
Noon Dismissal
Students should be picked up at the backstage entrance on Locust Street at 12:00 PM. Extended Day is available at Saklan until 3:00, but it is recommended that students go home earlier to have some down time before the concert if possible. If you need to reserve a space in Extended and on the van for your child back to school in between the rehearsal and the concert, please click here. Saklan will not be transporting students to the concert.
Concert Arrival
Students are expected back at The Lesher Center by 4 PM, dressed and ready to perform (the ushers are very strict about on-time arrival, so please be prompt). Students should find their teachers in the lobby and go into the theater with their class. Parents and friends need to get tickets from the box office (they are free!) and give them to the ushers as they enter the Theater. The show is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM and will end no later than 6 PM.

Rehearsal Schedule
Please make every effort to ensure that your student is at school on Monday, March 27th and Tuesday, March 28th, as well as at the Lesher Center on Wednesday, March 29th so they can take part in our all-student rehearsals.
Our rehearsal process is very important. Please do not schedule dentist, orthodontist, or doctors appointments during rehearsal times, and unless your child truly is sick, please make every effort to ensure that they are at school. Students should wear their uniforms to every rehearsal, even the “dress” rehearsal on the 29th. They will not need to wear concert clothes until the actual concert itself.

Attire
Students come to the concert in their “Sunday best” version of all black clothing, with an accessory of yellow. Black is a great color to wear on stage, as it draws attention to the face of the performer, and yellow is the universal color of joy and happiness. Ballet flats, Toms, Converse All-Star, Keds, and dress shoes are all welcome and encouraged; shoes should fit and be clean. Please, no high heels, UGGS, rain boots or hats. Click here for examples of some outfits that are appropriate, and feel free to talk to other Saklan parents who have been through the concert before, or email me!

Please feel free to put together an outfit that fits well and speaks to your child’s personality. However, use appropriate discretion in choosing clothes (please no midriff showing), and remember that your child will be on stage in front of almost 500 people.

Thank you very much. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to seeing you all on March 29th.

All my best,
Grace Chaffey
