IUP Values Me
Atiqul is a student in the Education, Training, and Instructional Technology (ETIT) master’s program in the Department of Professional Studies in Education and will graduate in May. He obtained his undergraduate degree in graphic design from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. A graduate assistant in the ETIT program, Atiqul provides D2L support to faculty and manages the department website. He also serves as the director of Public Relations for the Graduate Student Assembly. In this role, he led a rebranding effort and revived the organization’s internet presence. Atiqul reaches out to all graduate students through social media, Crimson Connect, and other marketing tools. His skills and experience have been vital to helping the GSA represent the voice of the IUP graduate student body. We thank you, Atiqul!
Emma is the director of International Student and Scholar Services in the Office of International Education (OIE). In this role, she helps international students, visiting scholars, and their dependents transition to life at IUP, connect with campus and community resources, participate in OIE programs that provide opportunities to learn and share, and maintain their visa status. Emma provides support for the OIE SkillZone Tutoring Center, which connects international students with peer tutors, and the American Language Institute, which offers intensive English instruction. She has coordinated special programming for our international students in conjunction with other offices. These initiatives have included Lunch and Learn sessions about US health care with the Center for Health and Well-Being, job-search workshops with the Career and Professional Development Center, and informational sessions with the Counseling Center and the Office of Social Equity and Title IX to highlight women’s rights in the US and resources available to them in the IUP and Indiana communities. We thank you, Emma!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we will highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their leadership and involvement in campus programs and their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and/or civil rights awareness. If you have a suggestion for an IUP community member to feature in this section, please email social-equity@iup.edu.
