Welcome Message from G.L. Black

Congratulations! We are excited to welcome you and your student to Vanderbilt University! To help address the expansive opportunities and inevitable stressors of the first year in college, the Office of the Dean of Students seeks to promote a culture of resilience, self-care and flourishing that enables students to achieve their academic and interpersonal goals.

We hope your student will quickly become familiar with Vanderbilt’s Student Care Network—our holistic network of student health and wellness services and community resources bolstered by four primary offices, including the Office of Student Care Coordination, the University Counseling Center, the Student Health Center and the Center for Student Wellbeing.

Vanderbilt’s health and wellness infrastructure is intended to provide the care, guidance and support for your student to grow and thrive at the university and beyond.

Again, we could not be more thrilled to welcome your student to campus in August.

G.L. Black
Associate Provost and Dean of Students

Ingram Commons

Welcome to The Ingram Commons webinar on July 20

Melissa Gresalfi, dean of The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons, will host a live webinar for incoming first-year students and their parents and families to share what to expect during their first year at Vanderbilt and their new home on The Ingram Commons. Panelists will be those who are responsible for building your student’s very first communities here on campus, including the Office of Housing and Residential Experience, a Faculty Head of House, a senior resident adviser on The Ingram Commons and a member of the VUcept board, the student organization that co-facilitates our extended orientation program called Vanderbilt Visions.

There will also be time to address the questions you have about life on campus. Please be sure to register for the webinar and submit your questions in advance.

Join our new Facebook group for parents and families

On July 20, the university is launching the new Vanderbilt Parents & Families Group (Official) for all current Vanderbilt families. The new group replaces the individual class Facebook groups. The group will be supported by fellow Vanderbilt family members, with guidance from Vanderbilt’s Parents and Family Programs team, who can answer questions or offer direction on where to find any information you need. The new group will also allow parents and families to connect with and learn from others throughout their Vanderbilt journey. We are One Vanderbilt, and together we can build a stronger community.
