Duke Student Affairs

March 22, 2022

Dear students,

We know many of you are watching world events unfold as you continue to navigate the spring term, including the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Duke community will gather to hold a Vigil for Ukraine this evening at 5:00 in front of the Duke Chapel. You don't need to have a particular connection to the region to join and show your support. As a reminder: resources are available to support members of our community feeling the impact of the war's ongoing toll directly or through relatives.

Many other public events and programs will happen in the busy days ahead. Some are highlighted below.

We hope you'll join us in watching with pride as the players, coaches, team managers, cheerleaders, and band travel to San Francisco for the Sweet Sixteen of March Madness for Men's basketball, too!
Mary Pat McMahon, Vice Provost of Student Affairs
Gary Bennett, Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education
Which faculty members inspire you? Know a faculty member who does an amazing job fostering community and supporting students?
The Office of the Provost will name up to 5 inaugural Faculty Fellows to join our two lead Levitan Faculty Fellows (Shani B. Daily and Greg Samanez-Larkin) for 2022-2023. Please submit your nominee's name and department via this brief form by Friday, March 25.
Now that you know your links between East and West, it's time to come together! Your newly elected Quad Councils will be in touch with their residents and linked East Campus houses with details. Blanking on which quad / neighborhood you're linked to? Check out the graphic below, including the full list of welcome parties.

Campus Climate Town Hall

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend the Campus Climate Survey Town Hall on Tuesday, March 1. This was an opportunity to actively engage with members of university senior leadership to discuss continued partnerships to effect meaningful, lasting change on our campus. In case you missed the event, you can view the recording here.

Academic Guide Templates

Did you know that your Academic Guides have pulled together a series of email templates, tips, learning tools and strategies, and informational guides for your academic journey? These include templates for requesting a letter of recommendation, a final exam planner, how to have a conversation with faculty during office hours, how to talk to your dean, and much, much more. Check out their resources page here!

On Tuesday, March 29, from 5-6 p.m. EST, Duke Student Government is hosting a fireside, off-the-record chat with Duke Alumna and Trustee Lisa Borders T'79, former Vice Mayor of Atlanta, Chair of The Coca-Cola Foundation, and President of the Womens National Basketball Association. This event will be open exclusively for the Duke Community.
