Penn LDI
NOVEMBER 2020
On November 20, Penn LDI and Penn Nursing presented a virtual conference on the current state and future of health professional scope of practice, and how to better meet community needs and reduce barriers to care after COVID-19. Supported by Penn Dental and Penn Law, the event featured national experts in law, economics, nursing, medicine, and dentistry. Read our event recap and related research brief examining Pennsylvania’s nurse practitioner workforce, and stay tuned for more conference-related materials coming soon.
Just days after the 2020 election, LDI convened a virtual seminar featuring Senior Fellows Allison Hoffman, Daniel Hopkins, Mark Pauly, and David Grande to discuss the possible implications of the presidential and congressional races on the future of U.S. health care reform.
A panel of national experts, including Senior Fellows Kevin Mahoney and Rachel Werner, discussed the extraordinary financial impact of the pandemic on hospitals and health systems, primary care practices, and community health centers during a recent LDI virtual seminar.
Eighteen states and D.C. may not have enough physicians with hospital experience to meet the needs of patients hospitalized with COVID at the projected peak of the pandemic, according to studies by Senior Fellow Kira Ryskina and colleagues. More than 40% of hospital service areas lack a physician with critical care experience, as Ryskina details in this research brief and STAT op-ed.
A series of studies by Senior Fellow Norma Coe and colleagues examines how patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias fare in Medicare Advantage plans, compared to traditional Medicare.
