Reminder: OptumRx Pharmacy Benefit ManagerWe remind you that all Harvard Pilgrim Health Care employer groups will begin using OptumRX as their specialty pharmacy provider effective January 1, 2023. OptumRx already serves as Harvard Pilgrim’s retail and mail order provider, and with this change, all Harvard Pilgrim employer groups and their employees will now have access to a fully integrated pharmacy benefit manager (PBM).
Members will have access to innovative digital tools, cost-effective access to medications, and a streamlined platform to make better decisions for their health. This update was shared with employers and members through our October newsletters. Members will also receive direct communications based on formulary changes, per our standard processes.

Open Enrollment Made Easy
Our educational tools are designed to help employees better understand their new benefits. Decision Doc from MyHealthMath helps new employees choose the plan that will save them the most money based on their anticipated health care needs. Once employees choose a plan, they can talk to a dedicated team of experts from SmartStart who can get them enrolled, answer additional questions, offer clinical transition support and more. We also offer new member welcome support with a variety of programs, resources, and tools to help them get started with their new health plan. We encourage you to share these materials with your employer groups.

Cost-Saving Tools for Members and EmployersHarvard Pilgrim’s Estimate My Cost online transparency tool helps members understand estimated out-of-pocket costs before receiving care. This tool also helps them proactively budget and plan for future health care needs. Effective January 1, 2023, cost estimates will be calculated from negotiated plan rate data instead of claims data. This change in process meets federal mandates designed for better transparency in coverage.
In addition, the Reduce My Costs reward program helps employees save money and earn gift cards when they select high-quality, cost-effective providers. This includes — but is not limited to — preventive procedures such as mammograms, colonoscopies, lab work, and MRIs. Reduce My Costs is available at no cost to fully insured groups and at preferred pricing for self-insured groups.

Access to Virtual Care 24/7Virtual health care is quickly becoming a central aspect of employers’ benefits strategy. With Telehealth by Doctor on Demand, we make it more convenient for members to access the quality care they need and easier for employers to manage their health care offerings. Members can connect with U.S.-based doctors for everyday care, confidential therapy, dermatologists and prescriptions — anytime from anywhere.

HMO Enrollment Area UpdateAs we shared earlier this year, we will be withdrawing from the Connecticut commercial market. With this decision, our HMO enrollment area will also be redefined. Throughout the year, we will work with you to review your current employer clients with Connecticut residents on an HMO plan and with renewal dates AFTER January 1, 2023, to ensure those clients are offered the most appropriate plans for their employees.
