Dear Wilkes Families,
Wilkes will be observing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a school-wide assembly on Thursday, January 12. Our 4th grade junior Librarians have created a presentation about the life of Dr. King Jr. and our third graders will perform We Shall Overcome.
Conferences are just around the corner on January 25-27. See the information below to sign-up for a conference. These conferences provide important information regarding your student’s progress. Whether you meet in person or via zoom, please make time to schedule conferences with your student’s teacher during these three days. Additionally, BISD completed an in depth process to create a new progress report (formerly known as the Report Card), please be sure to check out this important information below before conferences!
Don’t forget, opportunities for community input and public hearings for Wilkes Renaming will be on January 10 and 17 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Sakai. Also, Amii Thompson will be at the Wilkes PTO meeting on January 13 from 9:00 - 11:00 am in the Wilkes library to share the process. We hope to hear your voice.
Warmly,
Whitney

Updates to Grading & Assessment
The School Board recently held a Study Session focused on changes to the districts grading and assessment. During the 2021-22 school year, BISD began the process of updating our kindergarten through 5th Grade Report Cards, now called Progress Reports. This work was accomplished through many hours of committee meetings involving stakeholders from each K-5 grade level and school building in our district. The result is a Progress Report aligned with our curricula and assessments and is consistent across grade levels and schools.
These new Progress Reports will be used as of January 2023, replacing our former K-5 Report Cards. Elementary principals and teachers will provide parents and guardians with additional information.
For questions, please contact Amii Thompson, Executive Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, at 206-780-1067 or athompson@bisd303.org.
