LAST DAY OF SCHOOL CALENDAR CHANGE
The last day of school for the 2016 - 2017 school year has changed.
Due to snowy conditions, there was an unplanned no- school day on Dec. 9, 2016. Because of this, the school calendar needed to be adjusted and now the last day of school is Monday, June 19, 2017. This change does not affect the date of graduation.
Please note: If there are additional unplanned no-school days, the date may need to be adjusted again.
Plans are in the works for the 2017-18 school calendar and should be available by early February.
THE RESULTS ARE IN!
Join us for Listening Tour Report!
When Superintendent Dr. Peter Bang-Knudsen embarked on his Listening Tour earlier this school year, he set out to learn what staff, students and community members thought of BISD. And next week he's going to report on what he learned when he asked the following:
1. What is working well in the district?
2. What areas need improvement?
3. What advice do you have for me as superintendent?
The Listening Tour Report will be delivered at the School Board Meeting on January 26 at 5:30 p.m. Come listen!
Speaking of School Board Meetings, if you aren't able to attend, you can stay up to date with what is happening by visiting the School Board section of our website and reading the minutes and materials from previous meetings.

PARENTS: SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS
We want to hear from you!

The Bainbridge Healthy Youth Alliance, of which BISD is a partner, is asking for your help to identify community perceptions, values, behaviors and prevention strategies related to substance use.

We are interested in hearing from parents/guardians of students in grades 5-12. The information gathered will be used to inform the presentations by our upcoming panelists (see above).

Please take 10 minutes and complete the following survey, regardless of whether you will be able to attend the panel discussion. If an answer requires more nuance than the options provided, please feel free to add comments in the comment box.

BYS: A WONDERFUL RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS
Parents, do you know about Bainbridge Youth Services? BYS is the only nonprofit in Kitsap County that provides professional, free and confidential mental health counseling for students ages 10-21 and their family members.
The 55-year-old organization, located in the 100 Building on the BHS campus, is a safe haven for teens to release their steam and learn coping skills. And, it’s a place where parents and family members can get advice and help in supporting their kids. BYS has eight trained, professional counselors available to offer support and answer questions.
Also, www.AskBys.org is the online link (there's also a mobile app) to post anonymous questions to either a counselor or a physician.
Counseling isn’t the only thing BYS provides. Students can also get free tutoring, peer mentoring, summer internships and other job-training skills. Or they can just hang out in the BYS office for lunch or have a quiet place to do their homework after school.
The next time you or your student are feeling stressed or anxious, remember BYS is here for you.
