Longwood Reimagined Continues |
Last week we lifted into place the final structural steel column and beam assembly for our West Conservatory. In all, 13 rows of steel, encompassing 63 columns and 82 curved beams, were expertly placed during the last four months, revealing the beautiful lines of this unique design by Weiss/Manfredi. As is the tradition for a “topping out” moment, an evergreen tree, flag, or both, are attached as the beam ascends.

Join Us for the Community Read |
For the 2023 Community Read, we are thrilled to share three books that examine how food serves as a connector of people, especially for special moments, and to the worlds of plants and gardening.
Our featured title is Black Food: Stories, Art, and Recipes from Across the African Diaspora, edited and curated by chef and writer Bryant Terry. Young readers will explore the life and story of revered African American chef Edna Lewis in Bring Me Some Apples and I’ll Make You a Pie: A Story About Edna Lewis by Robbin Gourley. For readers in grades 6–12, The Comic Book Guide to Growing Food by Joseph Tychonievich and illustrated by Liz Anna Kozik is a delightful graphic novel guide to growing a successful vegetable garden.
Join us as we dive into these outstanding selections, all available for purchase at The Garden Shop and at major booksellers.
