2020-21 Theme: UNITY

'Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!' - Ps. 133:1

Progress update on name change

We want to thank all of you for your patience and participation in the name change process. It has been so encouraging to hear from so many alumni and to gather so much good feedback, input and suggestions.
We look forward to sharing the new name, mascot and logo before the end of the current school year!
The regularly-scheduled Board of Directors meeting on April 13 was moved to April 25. At that meeting, the BOD confirmed the new name and began deliberations on a logo and wordmark to represent the new visual identity. Those considerations are ongoing at this time.
We'd also like to thank everyone who participated in our surveys. Nearly 60 percent of the staff participated in a survey about the new mascot, while more than 30 percent of all readers from this newsletter participated.
The BOD was able to determine a new school mascot thanks to the community involvement from staff, the student body and a cross-representation of parents, alumni, interested and invested constituents.
Be on the lookout for more information soon.

Construction update

You may have noticed some work being done around campus lately.
As the weather has been improving we have been busy as bees getting work done with an eye toward our campus looking as good as possible for graduation in June and for next school year.
We've been busy pressure washing the roof of the gymnasium and Middle School building, replacing carpet and lights in the G Building, painting in the G Building, and removing trees that were causing plumbing, draining and sidewalk issues.
Exterior paint will be happening in the weeks to come as well. We'll keep you updated in this space as we move through our projects in the coming months.

Communications manager wins award

Congratulations to Craig Craker, our Marketing and Communications manager, who recently won a regional award for feature writing from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the fourth time in two years Craker has been recognized by CoSIDA for feature writing.
Craker won a Region 8 award for his Historical Feature on John “Rock” Simmons, the first African-American men’s basketball player to graduate from Northwest Nazarene University, where Craker used to work as the Director of Athletic Communications.
He was the only non-NCAA Division I school employee to win an award in either 2020 or 2021. Other regional winners worked at Stanford University, Cal-Berkley and San Jose State University. In 2020, he earned two regional awards and a national award for his feature on NNU men’s basketball coach Paul Rush and his family’s inspiring journey with foster care.
