| WEEKLY WORDS TO PONDER
“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.”

IUP Values Me
Kyon is a finance major in the Eberly College of Business and will graduate in 2024. He is the president of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. This fraternity “believes that a group of culturally diverse men can come together and maintain honesty, commitment, respect, and trust with one another.” As president, Kyon said his goal is unity within Greek life and awareness of Black and Latino students on campus. Through this role, and as president of the United Greek Council, he engages in community service and assists in creating workshops, fundraisers, and other events. Kyon is a former member of the Latino Student Organization (LaSO) and the IUP chapter of the NAACP. He won first place in the 2021 NAACP Talent Show. We thank you, Kyon!
Jennifer is the sexual violence prevention educator with the Haven Project. She oversees education and programming, working with peer educators and graduate assistants to hold events and promote awareness campaigns on the topics of sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, healthy relationships, consent, and stalking. Events include the annual RAINN Day and Take Back the Night. Jennifer is the campus coordinator for the Green Dot Bystander Intervention Program, which encourages all of us to step in and help one another to reduce power-based personal violence on campus. She works with faculty, staff, and students across campus to help the program grow, reminding people that no one has to do everything, but everyone has to do something. Her efforts have an invaluable impact on our campus. We thank you, Jennifer!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we will highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their leadership and involvement in campus programs and their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and/or civil rights awareness. If you have a suggestion for an IUP community member to feature in this section, please email social-equity@iup.edu.
