Weekly Update article
Dear St. Lukers,
When I hear the word “lavish," the mental image I have is of my one and only experience at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The word triggers this image because that Saturday morning, I was filming a video in a low-income neighborhood listening to residents tell their life experiences of poverty, insecurity, and yet their pride in their community. Then later that afternoon, I was at a friend’s house overlooking one of the numbered golf holes (I’m a soccer girl with no knowledge of golf), enjoying hors d'oeuvres and cold drinks with her neighbors while waiting for Tiger Woods to walk by during his turn. It was cool to see Tiger Woods up close, but the juxtaposition of my morning and afternoon in one day was too much to wrap my head around the huge economic and social gaps in our community.
Often, our worldly lens through which we interpret words and concepts distort what could be a beautiful and wholesome expression of God. God’s “lavish” love is an invitation for us to love recklessly, abundantly, and sacrificially. That love comes, and should come, to life through us as followers of Christ. As a St. Luker and a part of the Missions Team, I have the privilege of witnessing this love expressed through your dedication and sharing your time, talents, and treasures in such meaningful ways. We see it tangibly when you:
  • Roll up your sleeves and distribute 1,512 cases of...

June Financial Update

Thank you for your continued financial support during the last several months that we have not been able to meet on campus. Your generosity has been truly overwhelming. Through June, our giving went up 9% for the year, and our expenses are up 8%. The expenses are up primarily due to our Child Development Center and Recreation Ministry. They collect income that is included in our operating budget to offset their expenses, and since our campus has been closed, we have not received that income.
Our operating budget for the year is in an unfavorable position with our expenses being $51,906 more than our income. At the end of June 2019, we were in an unfavorable position of $63,774. June giving was up 23% over last June. We received 37% of our revenue in June through online giving.
We have also applied for and received a Payroll Protection Program grant from the Cares Act. This has allowed us to continue employing all staff at their regular number of hours. Some staff have transitioned to other duties since the campus has been closed. The amount we received was $562,686. With the addition of these funds, it has put us in a favorable financial position at the end of June of $510,781.
Thank you for your faithful stewardship and for sharing your gifts to support St. Luke's ministries and worship online. St. Luke's finance team is checking the mail at the church as well as the locked deposit box attached to Building C (by the office doors) frequently so you can feel confident that your offering is secure. You can continue to mail your contributions to the church (4851 S. Apopka-Vineland Rd. Orlando, FL 32819) or give online using our secure online giving platform QuickGive.
