Earth Day 2021
BNIM believes that climate justice must center on people, human dignity, and equity. Design plays an important role in addressing these issues. We understand and have experience within this wider discourse, which includes areas like racial justice, shared prosperity, accessibility as well as a restoring of a sustainable, inclusive, and safe public realm. And still, in a world of interlocking crises, we are actively addressing and seeking how we can further respond to climate justice at different scales in our communities and around the globe. Our upcoming release of Subject to Change, our annual sustainably report, will re-examine the ways we are addressing climate justice and areas of improvement through practice, projects, and advocacy.

The gathering spaces between the academic buildings on Johnson County Community College campus vary in scale, from large, more public courtyard spaces or amphitheater style spaces down to small, very intimate areas for personal study or reflection. All of these spaces are enhanced by a lush, very diverse and comprehensive palette of plant material, unique from other community college campuses.
The Career and Technical Education Center Landscape encompasses both a large lawn area for active play and shaded hardscape zones for passive gathering and events. Such spaces were carefully designed to assist in both stormwater treatment as well as minimizing long-term maintenance needs and to strengthen important campus connections.  M O R E
