So Many Reasons for Joy!

We have so many reasons for joy and gratitude this week:
  • The snow melted and the sun came to visit.
  • The 4-county COVID case rate dipped below .5% for the first time since November. (.47% as of yesteday!)
  • Many of our faculty and staff are getting their first round of vaccines.
  • We have been able to ease some of our COVID protocols. This week we made our first Sonic run of the year, hosted a few mixed (boarding/day) weekend activities, and began allowing boarding students to visit each other's residential houses.
  • We have a full week of prospective students visiting campus.
  • It's Spirit Week, and campus was full of "tacky tourists" yesterday.
We are grateful to our facilities crew for all of their work to clear our paths and roadways during the storms. They continue to clean up the many fallen trees and branches. We are also grateful for the team spirit that inspires our staff to cover for one another as colleagues dash out to vaccine appointments. Mostly, though, we are grateful to YOU for your patience and understanding during this most unusual year.
We kicked off this year saying "We're in this together!" And, indeed, we have been and continue to be. Keep your masks on and fingers crossed (and washed) as we strive for continued recovery of our lives together.

Winter Athletic Awards

During tomorrow's J-Block (12:45-1:30 p.m.), we will be celebrating our Winter athletic teams. Athletes have been asked to be in formal dress (as defined in our Student Handbook) and will gather in Wood-Alligood Gymnasium at 12:40 p.m. Parents and others may view the ceremony through the J-Block link

Weekend Activities

Day 8th and 9th Graders May Remain on Campus Friday Evening

With active case numbers in the region continuing to fall, we are experimenting with allowing some day students to remain on campus for Friday evening activities. This Friday, it will be the turn of day students in grades 8 and 9. Students must check-in, may not be in student residences, and must leave campus by 9 p.m. This Friday's activities will take place in Owen Student Union and Wood-Alligood Gymnasium.

Winterim Begins on Monday

Winterim begins on Monday. Students who are not participating in the overnight Winterims will have two courses a day based on the choices they made. View this year's Winterim schedule and course offerings. Day parents, please encourage your child to be dressed appropriately for their activity. Many of the Winterim programs are outdoors and involve significant walking or hiking. There are no class assignments due the week of Winterim.

Community Service Opportunities

Service Coordinator Rachel Malde is sponsoring a series of afterschool community service opportunities for our students. In addition to helping our neighbors and friends, students will earn two hours towards their service requirement at each event. This year's service requirement is 10 hours. View the Community Service Opportunity calendar. Students performing independent service projects may report their hours here.

Interact Book Drive

The Interact Club is collecting gently used and new children's and YA books. Drop-off boxes are located in the front hall of the Simmonds building and will be there through Winterim. They are also accepting cash donations to purchase books. Questions? Contact Kathleen Perkins '22 or Libby Neubauer '23.

Enrichment Through MIT

MIT's Lincoln Laboratory Beaver Works is running several free and virtual 8-week courses on Saturdays beginning March 6 for students in grades 9 and 10. Courses will be in robotics, cyber-security, assistive technology, programming, and more. No prior experience is necessary. More information is available at beaverworks.ll.mit.edu/CMS/bw/bwsi.

It's 3:30. Do you know where your Middle Schooler is?

Middle School students may not be on campus after 3:30 p.m. unless they are engaged in an Afternoon Program or attend MAC (Middle School After Care). Register here. Questions? Contact Lizzie Duncan.
