It's Fall, Y'all
It's Fall in Savannah...Welcome to our October Update
At Greenbriar, the children in our early learning centers at W.W. Law and Windy's Preschool are back to reading, learning math and playing...all those things that children do...with YOUR help.  The majority of  families who send their children to Greenbriar for early childhood learning are low income families.  We know that children who have a positive Pre-K experience and education are more likely to have a successful K-12 education and go on to graduate.
During the week of October 5-9, we will  be celebrating #GAPre-K week", the tenth year of celebrating the importance of an early education for children in Georgia. Studies have shown that every dollar spent on early child care and education returns up to $8.60 in societal benefits (Source: Georgiavoices.org). We cannot do this work alone. We rely on you to help educate the littlest members of our community and prepare them for a lifetime of successful learning.

Halloween Tips for Children
Halloween is one of our favorite holidays at Greenbriar...what's not to love about trick or treating for children AND adults?  This year, however, Halloween is a bit different due to Covid-19.  Here are a few essential tips from the CDC to ensure a safe Halloween for you AND your little ones:
1) A costume mask (such as for Halloween) is not a substitute for a cloth face mask. A costume mask should not be used unless it is made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers the mouth and nose and doesn’t leave gaps around the face.

2) Do not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth face mask because it can be dangerous if the costume mask makes it hard to breathe. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.

And while we are on the subject of holidays......we  are hard at work preparing for the  season ahead. We have a few exciting events planned for you so you can be socially distant and #HaveFunDoGood at the same time.
Please save these dates:
Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, Saturday November 28, 7 pm to 10:00 pm, presented by the Savannah Harbor Foundation, downtown Savannah
Savannah may not have snow but we sure do know how to throw a holiday parade...on the river!  Greenbriar is a beneficiary of an exclusive event on a Savannah riverboat icon-The Georgia Queen. Lead the parade of over 30 lighted vessels and enjoy holiday fare!   Enjoy our riverfront and help Greenbriar at the same time. #GivingTuesday, Tuesday, December 1st.
Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving, traditionally celebrated the Tuesday AFTER Thanksgiving (and the day AFTER Cyber Monday).   Please mark the date and stay tuned for some special announcements around giving to Greenbriar on that day!
Greenbriar's Annual Wrapping Center Opens December 4!
Come to the Oglethorpe Mall and have your gifts professionally wrapped by our team of TRAINED wrappers! (yes, our volunteers receive expert training!). We provide the paper and ribbons...you provide the presents!  Our new space will provide for social distancing AND merriment!  Interested in helping to sponsor this year's event?  We would LOVE to help promote your organization at the event, on our social media, and..this next newsletter could have YOUR LOGO!  If you are interested in promoting your business, and DOING GOOD for a child, please contact ctrice@greenbriarchildrenscenter.org.
And a final note:   Greenbriar cannot exist without YOUR help.  Your gift helps those  who are most vulnerable. On behalf of the children, thank you.
