BISD
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,

Wow, you are really stepping up! Thank you to everyone who has donated and helped their child participate in our Coho Run fundraiser. As of this morning, we are 49% of the way to our goal. A shout-out to Mrs. Walter’s class for almost having 100% participation already!

We are almost halfway to our goal and still have a few weeks left. Every bit helps and we are so grateful for your generosity. Some activities this money will fund are additional recess materials, Makerspace supplies, new Sakai Reads books, math and science enrichment activities, social study assemblies, and Bike to School incentives. Those really are just a few of the many items our amazing PTO budgeted for this year.

One incentive our PTO has offered for full student participation is to bring Hogwarts to Sakai. This is a fun tradition of decorating the halls of Sakai to look like they are right out of a Harry Potter novel. A team of us will do this the Sunday after the Coho Run, to add a bit of magic to the days leading up to conferences. If you are able to volunteer to help us create this fun environment for our kids, please sign up here. Again, thank you so much for your support!

We have many students choosing to ride their bikes to school, which is a wonderful and healthy option. Students at Sakai are at a perfect age to really learn bike safety and the rules of the road. In the spring we will play bike safety videos and do some mini-lessons on the broadcast leading up to Bike to School Day. If your student rides to school please go over safety rules with them.

A few things to remind our kids:
  • Ride in the same direction as traffic as far over as you safely can
  • Use hand signals and follow rules of the road
  • Be predictable, ride as straight as possible, and don’t swerve in front of cars
  • Ensure cars can see you when you are crossing the road
  • Walk bikes across crosswalks and on the school campus
  • Always wear a helmet, and if possible, wear bright colors
I appreciate your help keeping our kids safe as they transition to and from school.
Have a wonderful week, Sakai!

FALL CONFERENCES
Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th are Fall conference days.
There is no school for students on conference days.

Conferences are an important time to further that home to school, and school to home connection that is so valuable in education. It's a time for students to be recognized for their efforts, and a time for students to re-establish their goals and their dedication toward reaching those goals.  Families and teachers work together to support the student. In so doing, families and teachers show the caring and teamwork that is a crucial connection in a student's education.  Teachers are looking forward to conferencing with all of you.  If you have not yet heard from your student's teacher about signing up for a conference, you will soon.  When you do, please act quickly to sign up for the conference time that works best for you.

BISD IS TAKING A DEEP LOOK INTO OUR COMMUNICATION PRACTICES
BISD cares about communication and wants to make sure our staff, families and community members have the information they need to stay informed about our students, schools and district happenings.
We need your help! Please take the brief survey that best corresponds with your connection to BISD by clicking on the button(s) below. All survey responses are anonymous and your honest thoughts and opinions will help fine-tune our communication efforts.
A lot has changed since BISD last completed a formal communication analysis in 2006 (when Myspace was the #1 website in the world & the iPhone hadn't yet been released). We look forward to learning how we can better communicate with you.

If you have any questions, please contact Erin Bischoff at ebischoff@bisd303.org or 206-780-1081.
Act fast! The surveys are open Oct. 10 - 21, 2022.
