WILKES READS WEEK / READ ACROSS AMERICA
Wilkes Reading Week
In 1997, an organization known as the National Education Association (NEA) advocated for a special day to celebrate reading throughout the United States.  This popular idea took flight and the first Read Across America Day was held on March 2nd, 1998.

Wilkes Reading Week will celebrate Read Across America Day and our love for books during the week of Tuesday, February 28th - Thursday, March 2nd Students are invited to participate in any or all of the following school wide theme days:

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28:  Read a Shirt Day - wear a shirt (or any article of clothing) with as many words on it as you can.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1:  Bring a Book Character to Life Day - dress up as a character or theme from a book.  Think homemade!  No weapons (or looks like weapons) or masks that cover the entire head.  If your child needs an idea, Google “book costumes,” however students have already come up with brilliant ideas during our discussions.  There are no limits to their creativity and we can’t wait to see these characters come to life!

THURSDAY, MARCH 2:  Hat’s Off to Reading and Read Across America Day - Students will wear their own “something special” hats they created to our Book-it Theater Assembly presentation of Tiara’s Hat Parade.
During the week, students will experience guest readers, door decorating, and bookmark making at lunch recess as well as individual classroom activities celebrating books!

Please  note:  all of these theme days are optional in terms of participation and most importantly, we are looking forward to a fun filled week sharing in our love of books with your child and the Wilkes community!

Please email Mrs. Hauge if you have any questions at thauge@bisd303.org.

CEE SURVEY - LAST DAY
Your feedback is important!

Parents & Guardians: Please click here to take the survey. The survey results are school specific - if you have students in more than one school, please submit a survey for each school. The survey will close on Monday, February 27th.
The survey results will provide important feedback and metrics specific to our District Improvement Plan's outlined goals and inform our schools' future work.
Please contact Kristen Haizlip, Executive Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning with any questions about the CEE survey at khaizlip@bisd303.org.
