Not today, Delta

Even on days when there’s not a vaccine clinic on campus, you can still get a free COVID vaccine at the Health Center and at lots of places around town. Here’s how to find one:

JUST ADDED: Wednesday, Sep. 1: Walk-up Pfizer vaccine clinic at Johnson Commons, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. No appointment needed.

At the Health Center: walk in on weekdays 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are available while supplies last.

Off-campus: see this webpage. Most places are walk-in, but some places will also take appointments. If you prefer a certain type of vaccine, call ahead to see what each place has in stock.

Want to know more about how to protect yourself from the Delta variant? Read this Q&A with Dr. Hubert Spears of the University Health Center.

Know your academic calendar!

Make sure you know important Fall dates, like when the last day to drop a class is with no impact on your grade or tuition (tomorrow, Aug. 27) and when you get a day off school (Sep. 6!)

Adding and dropping classes
Don’t wait until it’s too late to add or drop a class from your schedule! You can add specific courses based on your prerequisites and available space in the class until Friday, Aug. 27. From Aug. 28-Sep. 3, you'll need an instructor's approval to drop a class for a full refund, and after Sep. 3, you won't get a refund for dropped courses.

Advice from upperclassmen

Listen up, freshmen! (And upperclassmen who need a reminder):

“Your teachers and professors are not scary! They are getting paid for you to bother them, and will not be offended if you ask them all the questions on the earth. So, if you become confused with any subject, TALK TO THEM! These teachers are amazing on campus and I have made lifelong helpful friendships by talking to my teachers and professors.” – JHR

😍 Upperclassmen 😍: what advice would you give a new student during their first month at Ole Miss? Tell them here.

Announcements

The City of Oxford now requires a mask while inside local businesses. And remember, masks are required in all indoor public places on campus, too.

If you need medical care, consider whether you could go to University Health Services or local urgent care clinics in light of the strain that COVID-19 cases are having on the local hospital. Smaller clinics can help with routine or non-urgent issues, or symptoms that can wait until the following day, such as cold symptoms, sore throat, mild fever, headache, muscle strains, minor lacerations, urinary tract infections or rash. Call Student Health at (662) 915-7274 for questions.

UM’s new Speaking Center helps with public speaking and presenting skills. You can make an online appointment or walk in for help.

The Lyceum Locker is UM’s free school supply closet that includes high-need items like flash drives and notebooks. Drop donations on the third floor of the Student Union, Suite H. Visit the Lyceum Locker Instagram for info about how to access it or email lyceumlocker@olemiss.edu.

NewsWatch Ole Miss, the student-run broadcast news station, will hold auditions Aug. 30-Sep. 3. More info and audition information here.
