Get Started in Undergraduate Research

New to undergraduate research and curious about where it can take you?
Attend one of our "Getting Started" Seminars that happen twice weekly in our office.  We'll go over how to get started in undergraduate research, including opportunities available on and off campus, funding, and much more.

Research Spotlight: The Schulz Lab

Check out what three of our undergraduate research interns were doing this summer in The Schulz Lab, a lab in the Psychology Department that researches the neurobiology of mental illness. 
Interested in getting paid to do research with a UT faculty member? See if our Semester Research Assistants Program or Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program fits you and your research goals. 

Research Abroad

EuroScholars offers you the opportunity to conduct research for a semester at one of five top research institutions in Europe.
Supervision will be provided by academic staff working on and/or responsible for the research project. The curriculum will consist of the Research Project (main element), literature review (independent study), elective (if applicable), and a language and culture course at the host university. Open to all disciplines. Scholarships available from our office, the Center for International Education, and EuroScholars.
The deadline to apply for Spring 2020 is October 31. Read more and apply here.

Research Seminars

Our office holds a research seminar series that goes over everything from how to find summer research opportunities to how to start your own business. Here are the upcoming seminars for September. All take place in Hodges Library, Room 220E from 3:45 - 4:30pm.
Wednesday, September 11 - "Responsible Conduct in Research" by Dr. Sarah Pruett, Director, Research & Integrity Compliance 
Wednesday, September 18 - "Why Apply to NCUR" by Susan Troop, Program Coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research
Wednesday September 25 - "Inventing and IP Rights for Students" by Dr. Nghia Hung Chiem, Licensing Associate, UT Research Foundation

Nominations For Chancellor's Honors Awards Now Open

If you know an outstanding undergraduate researcher or undergraduate research mentor, we invite you to nominate that person to receive an award at the Chancellor's Honor's Banquet. 
Nominations are due Dec. 6, 2019.

Present Your Research at a National Conference

If you've already done research, we encourage you to represent UT and present at a national conference. Here are three upcoming opportunities to get your research heard by a wider audience:

Travel Grants

Showcase your research and represent the University of Tennessee at a regional, state, or national conference.Students presenting their work at conferences may apply for funds to partially defray the costs of registration and travel. The amounts awarded are:
  • $300 for regional conferences (TN and any contiguous state)
  • $500 for national conferences
  • $800 for international conferences
