- Shout-out to the family of Malaiah for working so hard for her in many ways. Thanks for supporting her with her school work. Your encouragement, and your support of and work for her is making an impact.
- I would like to send out a shout-out to Col. David Hudson, principal of Franklin Military Academy. He is not only a great principal, but the epitome of a caring father to all of our children. His eyes see and ears hear what's going on in and around the school at all times.
- I would like thank our administration team, Mr. Gilstrap, Dr. Hines, Dr. Massa, Mr. Hawes, and Ms. Wyche, for doing a phenomenal job at Huguenot High School. Although we have 3 new administrators, they have positively impacted the culture and climate of Huguenot through positive reinforcement, accountability, and consistency of expectations for students and staff. I am excited for the new leadership and growth of Huguenot High School. Happy Virginia Principal Week! You are greatly appreciated!
- Giving a big shout-out to Mr. Whitaker, the lunch monitor at Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary. Mr. Whitaker is always so willing to help the children in any way possible. He goes above and beyond to make lunch as enjoyable as possible with creative activities and games, including other staff participation, while still running a well organized cafeteria.
- Thank you to the wonderful students, staff, and families at PHSSA for their support, dedication, and commitment to making sure you have a great place to teach, learn, and grow. Congratulations, Mighty Oaks, on a spectacular 1st semester!
- Samantha Cooper, Blackwell Elementary School's ed tech integrator, streamed the James H. Blackwell Schoolwide Spelling Bee for over 230 families today. What a task!!!! We thank you for being awesome!
- Shout-out to Ms. Hammond, art teacher at Overby-Sheppard Elementary School. Ms. Hammond creates amazing art projects that include all grades and result in incredible works of art that are second to none. She is an amazing art teacher and her projects always inspire thought and creativity. Thank you, Ms. Hammond, for bringing beauty and wonder to OSES!
- Shout-out to Mrs. Green at Broad Rock Elementary, Mrs. Peachtree, assistant principal, as well as Mrs. Johnson. All of them are outstanding and do a superior job in leadership. Praise goes out to them.
- Huge shout-out to our amazing WHES teachers and staff for bringing their energy, passion, and heart to all of our special engagement opportunities this past Friday: welcoming family members into their classrooms, facilitating meaningful community circles, launching our WHES Winter Book Club, and participating in our Werevu unity celebration. Your care and love for our students and their families was shining this past Friday!
- Special thanks to our WHES Student Engagement Committee – Lesley Greene, Janea Reed, and Lindsay Wilson – for your “Werevu” (ingenuity in Swahili) in planning out the details for our Werevu Unity Day celebration. The staff lunch from Africanne on Main was the perfect end to this special day!
- I am so grateful to all the RPS district personnel who supported our WHES family engagement efforts this past Friday! Andre Nious from RPS safety & security definitely helped to provide a sense of calm and security, as we worked to check in all the parents/caregivers who participated. It felt very reassuring to have you with us throughout the morning! Special thanks to the engagement team members (Nacilda Basualdo, Rachel Gonsalves, Luiz Martinez, Jonathan McDearmon, Karla Roca & Cristina Rivero) who all helped with guiding our parents/caregivers to breakfast and then to the celebration in the gym. We also appreciated your translation support and active participation in our Unity Day celebration! Thank you to School Board Member Jonathan Young for coming out to support this event and welcoming our parents/caregivers as they arrived! As always, we are so grateful for RPS photographer Chip Jackson for being on site to document so many special moments – we can't wait to see your amazing photos from this special day! Finally, a special thank you to the RPS culture & climate team members who have been a constant support: we loved having Margo Tacey with us so that you could see our community building circles and house team celebrations in person! And although Sarah Reilly and Angela Jones were not there in person, you both were there in spirit – we are so grateful for all you both have done to support our students and staff this past month and this entire year. We may represent many "houses" but we are one RPS family!
- I just wanted to write to let you know about a fabulous art show the RPS Fine Arts department put together. I also wanted to give a shoutout to Ms. Julz Suder, RPS fine arts coordinator, and Ms. Bonnie Greene, art educator extraordinaire, at Southampton Elementary School. The show is a monthly engagement featuring 3 RPS schools at Artworks Richmond each month. My daughter’s artwork is featured this month. We made a visit to see the show and were completely impressed with the gallery and the work the students and teachers put together. It was absolutely top notch! I hope to get the word out about this rotating show. It’s worth a visit and I can’t wait to go back next month to see what the other schools are up to. I would also love to give props to Julz Suder and Bonnie Greene for their dedication to the visual arts and their incredible care and effort they show our teachers and students every day. They make an amazing team!
