| Richmond Environmental Survey Listening Sessions – I've previously written about the Environmental Literacy Plan in the works from the James River Park System and Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. They're still seeking feedback through this survey in English and Spanish; they've also recently scheduled community listening sessions. See below for details!

| New Shoes for RPS Track Athletes – Over the last few weeks, the local non-profit Shood has been making the rounds to RPS high schools, outfitting our track and field teams with track spikes and running shoes! Shood collects new and gently used athletic shoes, reconditions them, and redistributes them around Richmond. They were recently featured in a Positively Richmond segment on ABC8 – check it out!

| Storage in Style at MLK – Big shout-out to local artist Silly Genius and Greater Richmond Fit4Kids for partnering to obtain and beautify a new gardening shed for the students at MLK Jr. MS!

- I would like to give thanks to Armstrong CSAs Gail and Harrington and office associate Faniels for supporting the school social workers with their meditation for attendance this week. We appreciate you all for helping the students and families easily transition in and out of the building.
- J.B. Fisher Elementary is appreciative and grateful for the leadership and planning of Megan Kuhl, Molly Boehm, and Lauren West for our Fisher Literacy Night - Camping Edition. Many families came, students were engaged with the stations, and staff had a great time helping out. Way to go!
- I would love to send a big shout-out to Ms. Hines, Ms. Woods, Ms. Faircloth, and Nurse Hall at William Fox Elementary. You make all the things possible – thank you!
- Shout-out to Ms. Ward for her kindness and diligence. She goes above and beyond for her students and juggles her time between several schools. I personally appreciate the sensory items she supplied for many students.
- Shout-out to Mrs. Walker, our custodian at Carver ES, for keeping the classrooms on her hallways super clean and for always having a positive attitude.
- Shout-out to Ms. Chelsea Mckoy, Mr. Jones, and Chelsea Graham at Carver Elementary. They go out of their way to ensure students get to class every morning. They help every teacher and never complain.
- A giant thank you and job well done to Meredith Ose, educational technology integrator, for her superb presentation and demonstration of Spheros for our librarians! We appreciate you!!
- I would like to thank the faculty and staff at Mary Scott Preschool for selecting me as the 2022-2023 Instructional Assistant of the Year.
- A big shout-out to the exceptional education staff who had 100% attendance and completion rate in training today. Way to set the bar high!
- This shout-out is for the flexible and deserving exceptional education staff at Ginter Park Elementary School, including our related service providers addressing student needs at multiple schools, our instructional assistants providing invaluable support, our behavior aides dedicated to students, and our teachers as the backbone of the department. You all are doing work that will have an immeasurable impact on our scholars' futures.
- Shout-out to all of the school webmasters who attended the Engagement Office's website training today! We sincerely appreciate your efforts to continue learning our new website platform and growing as awesome webmasters, especially with the many other demands of your job. Thank you!

| 2023-24 School Applications – The application window for families to submit open enrollment, specialty school, and governor’s school applications for the 2023-24 school year is now open via the Enroll RPS Portal. Students may apply for:
- Any specialty school for which they are eligible (specialty schools include Franklin Military Academy, Open High School, Richmond Community High School, Governor’s STEM Academy at Richmond Technical Center, and the IB Diploma Programme at Thomas Jefferson High School (for rising 11th-grade students))
- Out-of-zone schools via the open enrollment lottery (maximum of three school choices)
- Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts (charter school) via a separate open enrollment lottery (if eligible)
- Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and/or Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School (the application for CodeRVA is managed separately by that school)
A few important notes:
- Families will have until 4:30 pm on December 1, 2022, to submit specialty and governor’s school applications, and until 4:30 pm on February 1, 2023, to submit open enrollment applications.
- We unfortunately cannot accept late applications for any reason. Please plan accordingly.
- As long as your application is submitted before the deadline, the timing of your submission will have no impact on the outcome.
