Action required if changing from F-1 to H1-B!
Dear International Gauchos on OPT and STEM OPT,
It's the time of the year when some of you have been selected for the H1B lottery and will be changing your non-immigrant visa status from F-1 to H1-B on October 1, 2020.

If this applies to you, congratulations!

Please ensure you submit the following relevant forms in your respective categories to the general OISS inbox, which is OISS@sa.ucsb.edu. It is important that you do so on or before October 1, 2020, so that we may properly close both your SEVP and OISS records. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

If your case will still be pending after October 1, 2020 and subsequently approved later in the year, please also follow these directions at the time of approval:

OPT Students
  1. Your I-797 Approval Notice from the USCIS for Change of Status to H1B

  2. The OISS completion form located here: https://oiss.ucsb.edu/sites/default/files/2020-05/student-completion-form.pdf

STEM OPT Students
  1. The Final Evaluation on Student Progress located on page 5 only (bottom portion) of the I-983 Training Plan here:  https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/i983.pdf

  2. Your I-797 Approval Notice from the USCIS for Change of Status to H1B

  3. The OISS completion form located here: https://oiss.ucsb.edu/sites/default/files/2020-05/student-completion-form.pdf

IMPORTANT

If your I-797 Approval Notice indicates Consular Processing, your F1 record should remain Active until you have successfully traveled and re-entered the U.S. with your H1B visa foil.
Until then, you must maintain your F1 record. OISS still requires you to submit your I-797 Notice of Approval (only) because in all likelihood, your SEVP record will complete on October 1, 2020, and we will need to work with you to ensure the record is Reactivated in the Portal system.
As always it is our pleasure to support you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to an OISS Advisor. We truly hope that you are enjoying your experience working in the U.S.

Sincerely,
OISS Staff
