Alumna Profile: Olivia Casey (Class of 2022)
Miami alum Olivia Casey reports that studying abroad and earning the Global Readiness Certificate strongly influenced her career choices after graduation. Olivia is currently teaching math in Suphanburi, Thailand through CIEE Teach Abroad. To others who might consider a career abroad, she says, "Definitely do it. Step out of your comfort zone and just book the flight. What is holding you back?"

Building Your Spring Course? Include the ELLWC!
Empirical research shows that learning to write in a second language is a multidimensional process. To succeed in your course, international students need help with learning to write in your discipline and improving academic English skills. Unfortunately students are not always aware that there’s a gap between their language proficiency and high standards for written work.
To set international students up for success in your course, please strongly encourage them to get supplemental instruction at the English Language Learner Writing Center (ELLWC). Students can choose between on-campus appointments (in-person interaction with consultants) and written online appointments (a student’s paper is returned with comments and no in-person interaction).
