BISD
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,

As this semester comes to a close, I want you to know we are all so proud of our students and everything they have accomplished. Throughout this year they have shown kindness, perseverance, responsibility, and reliability. They have grown as a community, as learners, and as people. We are excited to continue watching them grow next semester.
I also want to express enormous gratitude to the Sakai staff for their dedication and commitment. They are an inspiring and passionate team to work with and I feel so fortunate every day to work aside them.
And, I want to thank you, Sakai families. Thank you for your partnership and grace as we work together to serve our students. We are looking forward to meeting with you this week to discuss your student. Conferences are a valuable time to strengthen the home-to-school connection and ensure we are doing all we can for our students. Tomorrow at 5:00 progress reports will be available for families to view on Skyward. I would like to add a quick note that grades given in 5th and 6th do not go on a lasting transcript. At this age, they are truly meant to be feedback for students. The value is in the reflecting and goal setting.

This month we have been discussing digital citizenship at Sakai. For families, we were so fortunate to have John Garland join our PTO meeting on Friday. If you missed it, here is a recorded version of John's presentation and the question and answer session that followed (Passcode: B6cF7gR^)  John shared tips for talking with your children about their on-line presence and setting healthy boundaries. John also passed along these resources for families:

Key Takeaways:
  • Digital Citizenship: The importance of being emotionally intelligent, having self-value over online perfection comparisons, and understanding the issues digital media creates
  • When should I give my child a cell phone?: It’s a parental choice -there is no “right” answer. Also, not everyone has a phone at Sakai. In fact, most students do not.
  • Be involved and engaged: Kids actually do enjoy their parents/guardians/teachers being interested in what they are doing online and love it when they can teach someone how to do something on a computer, game, or an app
  • Rules: Keep in mind, your rules may not be the same rules at their friend’s house

WINTER CONFERENCES
Wednesday, January 25th, Thursday, January 26th and Friday, January 27th are Winter conference days.
There is no school for students on conference days.
Conferences are an important time to further that home to school, and school to home connection that is so valuable in education. It's a time for students to be recognized for their efforts, and a time for students to re-establish their goals and their dedication toward reaching those goals.  Families and teachers work together to support the student. In so doing, families and teachers show the caring and teamwork that is a crucial connection in a student's education.  Teachers are looking forward to conferencing with all of you.
Your student's progress report will be available for viewing in Family Access on Tuesday, the 24th, after 5:00 pm.
NURSE'S NOTE
Clothing donations needed for our Health room

Our health room provides dry clothes for students who need a change of clothes.  With the recent wet weather, our supply of shirts, legging and sweatpants has diminished.

If you have any gently used clothing you are no longer using, please consider donating them to the health room.  We would appreciate it!

It's coming! The annual, colossal, gigantic, I can't believe it......Share the love.... COHO COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE!!
