Dear #RPSStrong Family,
Tonight's updates:
| |
| May Student Representative – Many thanks to our May student representative to the School Board, Emmely Soto from Richmond Community HS, for sharing her thoughtful reflections with us during last night's meeting. Emmely serves as President of the Environmental Club, and is a member of the Mindfulness Club and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. In her spare time, she tutors children in her community and enjoys reading, writing, painting, and embroidery. Emmely plans to attend Longwood University, majoring in Criminal Justice. Thanks again, Emmely!

| School Board Recognitions – Last night, we also recognized teachers, school nurses, and nutrition staff with proclamations. Please join me in thanking these extraordinary members of the RPS family by sending me your shout-outs!
| |
| Recognition on the House Floor – Speaking of recognitions, enormous gratitude to Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan for recognizing John Marshall HS Coach Ty White on the floor of the House of Representatives. Thank you, Congresswoman McClellan, for your continued support of RPS students, families, and staff. Check out the video below!

If you walk into her classroom, you will see a well structured class with a positive climate, and students actively engaged in instruction and working in small groups. She is truly a team player and willing to do what's best for students." – Principal Rickeita Jones

- I would like to shout-out the 26 scholars at T.C. Boushall Middle School who were inducted into the Honor Society this morning. We are so proud of you! Shout-out to their parents for supporting them and encouraging their academics and citizenship! Special shout-out to Alease Johnson for making the magic happen with a lot of hard work! Shout-out to Ms. Chacon for translating the program so that it could be enjoyed by all participants and their families! Shout-out to Ms. Waller for her support of the program. And finally, shout-out to the custodial staff for making the space pretty! Good job, good job!
- Shout-out to Annette Taylor, Alfred Cowans, Drequan Smith, and Douglas Scroggins for keeping Richmond Technical Center extremely clean. We appreciate you for going over and beyond the call of duty for us.
- I'm so appreciative of the staff at Westover Hills ES and how they've made me and all employees feel a part of the school community. I love the students and always show them love & light and let them know that they are special. Thank you, Principal El Koubi, for allowing me to join you on your journey.
- I would like to give a shout-out to all of the teachers and staff at Ginter Park ES. This school is a hidden gem! The teachers, principal, and staff members go above and beyond for the students and families every day. These teachers are teaching no matter the circumstances or situations; they get it done. Kudos and Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
- I want to shout-out Mr. Aaron Bryant, 7th grade math teacher at Lucille Brown Middle School. He's an incredibly supportive colleague, and kids absolutely love him! He's only in his second year of teaching, but you'd think he'd been teaching forever, with all of his knowledge, expertise, and relatability to students. (And the whiteboard math jokes outside his door always make my day!)
- I would like to send a "super duper" shout-out to all of my coworkers here at Blackwell Preschool! You guys are the best! Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to you all.
- I would love to send my appreciation to Ms. Boaz for all she has done and all she has helped me accomplish. I thank her for helping me prepare for my test. Wish me luck! :)
- I would like to shout-out Mrs. Moultry at Huguenot High School. She is so loving and welcoming to anyone that comes into the front office. I needed help with something and she went above and beyond to help me and my children. Every time I have to pick my kids up, I bring my 8 yr old daughter with me because she loves her some Mrs. Moultry and Mrs. Moultry loves her. These are the kind of people that make the world a better place. Thanks, Mrs.Moultry, for being you.
- Shout-out to Ms. Conklin at Amelia Street and her dedication to their class project with chickens. The students have shown such care, concern, and gentleness towards the chickens and learning how to responsibly care for them – It's really beautiful.
- I would like to shout-out Ms. Cunningham, Mr. Harple, and Mr. Wilson for the outstanding music performance at Miles Jones ES! Under your guidance, our students sounded amazing and joyful! Thanks to all who participated and attended, and a big thanks to our incredible music department at MJJ!
- I would like to shout-out the 4th graders at Westover Hills Elementary School for their Minds & Motion performance last Thursday. They were spectacular! Thank you to the WHES teachers and staff who supported the students back stage – you all rock!
- It is my pleasure to send out a huge shout-out to Ms. Patricia Woodberry, our RPS lead SPACE teacher, who goes above and beyond for our staff and students. Ms. Woodberry's attention to detail in organizing the impossible into the possible, such as the virtual Mind Games competitions last Thursday and Friday, is bar none. Thank you to our participating teams, principals, coaches, and monitors for acknowledging the power and joy of thinking. Special shout-out to our SPACE teachers for bringing that joy to our students every day: Machelle Johnson, Brooke Cosans, Emily Hooker, Leigh Young, Steve Beckett, and Sandra Hayward-Jones.
- I would love to shout-out Ms. Springs from Oak Grove-Bellemeade. She’s amazing with the kids and takes time out from her weekends to tutor her students to make them successful. We need more teachers like Ms. Springs!
- A huge Summer Hill shout-out to all of the families who brought in food and treats today for our amazing teachers for Teacher Appreciation Day! We appreciate you, too!
