Move-In Day Instructions

New Student Move-In Day is Tuesday, September 19

On this day, frosh and new transfers can check in at their Housing Service Center anytime between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We encourage you to arrive by 12:00 p.m. so that you can enjoy the day's welcome events. Please note that all new students must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. Required NSO programs will begin that evening.
(For those arriving to campus early for a pre-orientation program, please review the specific arrival instructions provided by your program.)

Getting to Campus

Review directions to campus and transportation information from nearby airports (SFO, SJC, OAK). Once on campus, navigate to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location. Download the Stanford Mobile app and use the “Map” feature or find your residence on this 2023 NSO Move-In map.

Checking In

Go to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location to pick up your room key and SUID card. Be ready to show a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. If you have already been issued a SUID card, be sure to bring it, as a new card will not be printed.

After Moving In

Lunch is complimentary in the dining hall for your guests, We invite students and families to attend welcome events in the afternoon including these signature NSO events:
  • 133rd Opening Convocation Ceremony: 5:30-6:30pm, Frost Amphitheater

What to Bring

Make sure you bring with you what you'll need for your first nights at Stanford: ID, toiletries & towel, clothes & jacket, shoes, and basic bedding.

Guidelines for Packing

Each student will have in their room: bed with mattress, desk and chair, wardrobe/closet, dresser, bookcase, and trashcan/recycling. Review these guidelines for what to pack and consider how to be sustainable.
Since Stanford does not provide storage on campus, we recommend you start by bringing only the necessities! Wait until you meet your roommates before deciding on optional items such microwaves, which you can purchase later if desired. Each dorm room will have a mini-fridge provided by Stanford Housing.

Shipping Your Belongings - Mail & Packages

All student mail and packages are received on campus at the Tresidder Mail & Package Center. Residences will not receive mail or packages. If you plan to send items to campus or order items online, follow the instructions to address your mail and packages.
Do not ship your items early, as they will not be accepted until you have moved in. (Exception: If you ordered your bedding through Stanford's Dormroom program, your Dormroom package will be held at Tresidder until you arrive.)

Biking on Campus & Other Ways to Get Around

Biking is one of the most popular and fastest ways to get around campus, and bike safety is a priority. If you choose to have a bike on campus:

  • Stanford’s free Marguerite Shuttle takes you around campus. Get up-to-the-minute information about bus locations and estimated arrival times for most Marguerite lines with the Live Map on the Stanford Mobile app.
  • Stanford has a university Zipcar program. Join Stanford’s plan for discounts and incentives.
  • Stanford’s Frosh Emergency Ride Home program provides first-year students three free rides back to campus if they are caught without a ride or unexpectedly need non-emergency medical attention. Register now.
